Rabble Rabble Rabble

Rabble rabble John Stamos rabble chicken fries rabble rabble Jetsons rabble scroll lock rabble...

In all seriousness, it's time to realistic think about selling the valuable parts of the this team come the trade deadline.

The value variable is my estimation of their overall trade value on a scale from 1-10 (1 being nothing, 10 being multiple picks and/or quality prospects)

UFA assets
and their value:

Sykora - Second round pick (7.5)
Smyth - First round pick or top 10 prospect (8.5)
Markkanen - Third round pick (6)
Tjarnqvist - Third round pick (6)
Petersen - Nothing (1)
Nedved - Nothing (1)
Hejda - Almost nothing (3)

RFA assets and their value:

Torres - 1st round pick and top 10 prospect (9)
Winchester - Almost nothing (3)
Greene - 1st round pick (8)

1 year left (UFA) assets and their value:

Smith - 1st round pick and roster player (9.5)

I think we should sell whatever UFAs we can, and try and sign Hejda to a cheap extension. Beyond that, the rest shouldn't be dealt unless a significant veteran defenseman is coming to the Oil as part of the deal.

On what planet is somebody going to give up a 2nd round pick for Petr Sykora?

And a 3rd round pick for Jussi??

On the same planet that Sergei Samsonov commanded a 2nd+ at last years deadline. As for Jussi, I think you are overvaluing 3rd round picks, a team in need of a veteran backup (Vancouver) would be willing to part with a 3rd in order to solidify their backend for a playoff run. Jussi's stock went up considerably during last years SCF; he is a 'proven' backup goaltender.

Torres is a guy with a lot of 'mash', a characteristic that is not easy to find among 20+ goal scorers. Moreover, he's having a pretty piss poor year, and could be had for a fairly decent price over a multi-year deal.

Torres signing a 3 year 5.4m deal this off season wouldn't exactly be a stretch, and for that reason I'm not ready to give up on him right now.

How in the holiest of all hells is Raffi Torres worth a 1st round and a top 10 prospect, while Ryan Smyth is only good for either or?

RFA > UFA. If we deal Torres, the team has the opportunity to sign him for a multi-year deal and at the very least would have his services for another full season (arbitration). Conversely, a team that deals for Smyth is only guaranteed that he plays out the remainder of the season.

Simple really.

I heard on the team1260 that Both the Sm(y/i)ths would go for a 1st and a top prospect. They were talking to some of the other scouts in the league.

Didn't a UFA Witt go for a 1st last year?

Top 4 Dmen >> Top six winger

Smith isn't close to the player that Smyth is, but supply & demand dictates that a defenseman will fetch more than a forward.

In all honesty, if Luongo goes down, the Canucks are ****ed no matter who the backup is. Might as well stick with Sabourin for free.

I think acquiring Jussi would be useful from a standpoint of keeping Luongo out of games down the stretch towards the playoffs.
