Well what if we did tweak for the future?

Apparently Anton Babchuk got suspended from the Canes for failure to report to the minors. TSN has this guys career potential as a top 4 Defenceman, and he does have a good shot. What about acquiring a guy like this (moreso for the future, as he is only 22).

Here is the link for the suspension:

Thoughts?

Im huge into tweaking for the future, even when a team is putting together a contender they always need to be ensuring their future is bright.

Babchuk? I don't know him much, who would you sit in his place?

Babchuk, straight up for Bergeron.

Another guy that Staios could help mold.

Well that is clearly a valid question.......clearly Babchuk wants nothing to do with toiling in the A, so I guess you can't really acquire him and put him in the system to develop. On the other hand, he did play much of the season, and pairing him in the bottom I think would be great for the future.

Hmm, I don't think I would be opposed to that.

If I were to trade for the future though I would rather for for Zbynek Michalek or Tyutin from the Rangers.

Even if we have to trade some value to get them it would be worth it.

Head ache written all over him. I'd take a chance on him though, as he has the tools to be a really good one.

It seems to say in the aritcle that the last thing the Canes need is another defenceman (they have 10 including Babchuk...wow). He's interesting enough, a 6'5 200 lb blueliner with a bit of offensive upside is always such. We'd have to move a forward though.

Okay, so send them Petersen or Thoreson. One of our mostly NHL partially AHL players.

The asking price for this guy will not be very high. They will not want a dman in return as well since they have 10 that can play on their roster right now. Remember what they got back in return for Jack Johnson...it sure wasnt a hell of a lot. So looking at how much they asked for a future #1 dman 4 months ago and that Babchuk seems to be done in Carolina, sending them a 4th line forward would probably get it done. Send them Winny or Peterson and a low end draft pick if need be. This gives as a young dman which we would have to worry about leaving come July 1st.

Do we want someone that is unwilling to report to the minors?
