how about Eberle and Petry to Philly for the Schenn brothers?

Move Gagner to the RW and put Schen at center?

Where do you guys come with these proposals?...........I am amazed at the players that you people come up with.........I don't know if its personal biases or friends of a friend but man I am amazed.

Personally, I would not trade Eberle straight up for both brothers!

Realistic d options and hmmm maybe d options

realistic for next year:

Quincey J. Schultz
Marincin Petry
Ference Fedun
Fraser Larsen

Quincey is a nice option that would garner as much money or attention as Girardi

hmm maybe...

trade Gagner & Jonensu & Kessy
for
Campbell & Matthais

sign Girardi

Campbell Girardi
Quincey Schultz
Ference Petry
Marincin Fedun
Fraser Larsen

I like it!!!!

Hence the realistic option!

I would target Quincey / Meszaros / M. Greene / Fayne / Nikitin / Niskanen / M. Stuart

Not in any order, but those would all come cheaper than Girardi I believe!

Cheap shouldn't really be a concern IMO, as the Oil currently have an estimated 33 million in cap space for next season(and possibly another 4.8 off the books if Gagner is traded). The big concern should be finding at least one legit top pairing defenseman. I'm skeptical that Girardi fits that description though. I'd like to see MacT offer Markov a nice retirement package though.

Rfa offer to PK Subban ...7 yrs @ 9 per .....cost of 4 1st rd picks.......we still draft this yr......I'd be seriously thinking about it is I was MacT.......4 oilers firsts ......would the Habs match ?

Gives us a better opportunity to bring along Nurse, Klefbom....hopefully Ekblad slowly......we have 33mil in capspace this year......management has shown they would do it before with Vanek.....

Giving up four first rounders for anybody is a bad idea.

It's incredibly important for contendin teams to utilize their late first round picks well in order to restock their teams with good, young players on their ELCs.

Not having a first rounder for four year means four years of basically not getting a decent fill in player and having to fill holes by overpaying in free agency.

Look at Pittsburgh, who's good and has some good ELC players coming out of their *****.

would you guys do our pick to Buffalo for Myers?

just talking to a friend, it would actually make a lot of sence, they draft Ekblad, have to many D, so trade us Myers and grab a Forward. I would do it in a heartbeat, just curious what others think.

Most Detroit fans would give Quincey away for a song so I wouldn't count on him being any kind of savior (though I'd still sign him, he'd probably be our 3rd or 4th best defenseman) and why in the world would Florida trade a legitimate #1 defenseman and a big young improving center for gagner and that steaming pile?

I might, if Ekblad is off the board when we pick. He sure looked good in the game last week.

AFAIC, the only draft pick I want is Ekblad. If not him, then trade the pick for immediate help. Perhaps not Meyers, but definitely a D.

I think the Habs definitely match. I think our only shot is to make a hockey trade for him.

The question then becomes is it worth it? The cost of acquiring him would be astronomical.

Traditionally #1D's get traded for a lot of lesser pieces(look at 2 Pronger deals). 2014 1 rounder, Klefbom, Petry and _____?

You might start watching Myers first, for what he is paid and for his supposed trade cost, he is absolutely not worth more than a 2nd+gagner !!

You guys need to trade with winnipeg or nashville (bogosian/enstrom/josi)

With our track record, 4 Oilers first round picks could be pretty enticing ...and the Habs have been very hard in negotiations with Subban before....do they want to have him as the 2 nd highest cap hit in the game

I wouldn't mind Stuart for the bottom pairing L side D, and Greene for R side as a plan B if we strike out on bringing in any actual top 4 dmen. Roll something like this next year:

Ference-Schultz
Marincin-Petry
Stuart-Greene

Hopefully Marincin progresses within a year or two to the point where you can switch him and Ference. Ideally next year we bring in Markov and Girardi through UFA and roll this:

Markov-Girardi
Ference-Schultz
Marincin-Petry

Let Marinicin develop properly and work his way up the roster.

Edit: After looking at the UFA list again I think our two targets who may not be top end guys but would help should be Morris and Phillips. I think these two are realistic and won't cost an arm and a leg. They'll also bring some more vet experience which we desperately need. Roll with this D next year:

Phillips-Schultz
Marincin-Petry
Ference-Morris(Shut Down pairing)
Fedun

Girardi+Morris would be a huge addition to this team. With Petry-Marincin emerging as a competent two way pairing over this last stretch, adding two more sound defenders would enable us to correctly develop Nurse, Klefbom and (hopefully) Ekblad while also giving us a playoff calibre defense going into next year.

Even if MacT is able to land another two legit top 2/3/4 d-men would be a huge upgrade IMO.

Let everyone else drop down a couple spots, and play guys based on who's going that particular night.

Regardless of how you arrange these guys, if you let all the RFA's go and sign some able bodied size and ability to fill the holes next year, this team could be competitive.

Hall - RNH - Yakupov
Perron - XXX - Eberle
XXX - Gordon - XXX
Hendricks - XXX - Pitlick

XXX - XXX
Marincin - Petry
Ference - Schultz

Scrivens/XXX <- tandem

That #2C spot is a big decision, needs to be a bigger smooth skating, 2-way puck distributing guy if possible.

As far as Eakins goes, I think he's learned a lot this year as well and is adjusting accordingly. I say give him another season to see if he can right this ship and make a decision then. The last thing these guys need right now is yet another new head coach IMO.

Edit: I also still think it would be nice to try dropping one of the top six down to the 3rd line and try to attack with the top 9.

Any chance either Anisimov, Umberger, Bjugstad or that kind of guy would be available... what about Carter out of LA. Would that be completely pointless to even think about considering his swift trade from CBJ? How about Dubinsky, I also think a guy like him could be what the doctor ordered playing on that second line.

The Oil should bring Lander, Pitlick and whoever else up for the last quarter to see if they can play at all. As much as Smitty, Jones, Gazdic or whoever else has been decent this year, the big club should see what kind of value some of their prospects have IMO.

Tyler Myers is far to big of a question mark. If you are trading the pick I want an actual top pairing d-man. Not a guy who might get there but is currently a bottom pairing guy.
