You can't look at the games that the Oilers play the Wild and think they are going to be the difference. There are 23 other games to be played for the Oilers, and those games will have more of an impact on the playoff picture than the head-to-head match ups with the Wild. If the Oilers play those 23 games at the same clip they have been playing all year, they will end up that 23 game segment with an 11-10-2 record, which is only good for 24 points and 80 point total. Even with a sweep of the 5 games against the Wild that would put the Oilers at 90 points, still behind the projected total of 92 the Wild would achieve. The Oilers have a lot of winning to do, and it needed to start three games ago. In my estimation, the Oilers can afford to lose no more than 10 games the rest of the way if they hope to have a shot.
The Oilers are 6 back of the Wild for the playoffs, with no teams to leapfrog (though Colorado is just one point back).

The Oilers have 5 games left against the Wild. Traditionally, the Oilers have dominated the wild with the exception of last season.

If the Oilers can get 8 points, and limit the Wild to 3, the Oilers are right back in the hunt.

The Oilers do need to start winning some games though. It would be nice if they could pull to within 2 points of the Wild by the deadline. If they can do that, they have a very good chance.

1 week can completely change the dynamics of this divsion. The Oilers just need to start winning consistantly.

TheSpecialist - MacT thinks he was that good of a hockey player when in actuality he was no better then a Louie Debrusk.

I don't think this team will make the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, I want them to and I wish they did but I'm running out of optimism with this team. They can't win more than 2 in a row and they can't beat the good teams [much less beat teams in our division]. If they make the playoffs I'll gladly eat crow but until then...

I'm with you Cerebral, i still think this team has it in them to win and make the playoff, even have a big bang, and ill always have hope for this team, its the only one i really love!

I think one thing that will help us, and god forbid it happens to be anything serious, but Manny Fernandez's injury for 1-3 weeks is a definite blessing in disguise, i was watching the highlights of the Min vs. Dallas game, and man the Wild's offence was dominating, but for some reason, Dallas sneaked back in and scored 4 un-answered goals to win it, i think for this strech we might see the Wild drop in the stands, all we have to do is take the chance and capitilize with it.

A less talented and less experienced team is undoubtedly going to make more mistakes and not play perfect games all the time (or even frequently), so will there be less discussion on how <player X> made a fatal mistake that cost us a game, since we no longer need to worry about winning games, but rather focusing on next season?
I've been saying for a month now that I think the way to go is to rebuild and that I get excited about getting our younger guys more ice time and getting them ready for next season. I've said it now a million times, if we started building for next year NOW, we could easily be contenders going into next season and for 3 or 4 years after that. I know you were just using me as an example because I had just posted but I thought I should state my case.
