I think the reason for Berubes crazy TOIs at times is he is so obsessed with line matching at times he gets lost. I agree with line matching... but it is not sacrosanct.

The 1st line: 42:53 combined
The 2nd: 48:23 combined
The 3rd: 48:11 combined
The 4th: 36:12 combined

No excuse for that really though. It helped them get stuck in the zone a lot and let a lot of extra shots on Emery.

Giroux has been a bit underused at times lately... after being heavily overused early on. But maybe it is purposeful, duno why it would be though.

Downie is just too slow to play in the East. Not just his skating, but his decision making as well. It's fine out West where everything is about structure and system, but he's being exposed by the more free-wheeling East.

Grossmann officially is being labeled with an upper body injury.

Edit: This is the official wording...

INJURY UPDATE: Nicklas Grossmann suffered an upper body injury in today's game vs. Calgary. The team will know more tomorrow. (Source: Flyers)

Our fourth line sees the ice too damn often.

We absolutely own the west lately though.

I guess you can call a lobotomy an 'upper body injury'.

Emery & Mez named to the three stars, who would have thought of that before the game.

I was wrong about starting Emery, but I could give a **** about Meszaros' two cheap points. He was still awful in his own zone.

Yeah, Mez was crap. Guy's defensive IQ is minuscule.

And from Bill Meltzer's Twitter feed:

Gus was healthy scratch per Berube. Grossmann has "little upper body" inj but "will be fine."

I listened to the game on the radio so I didn't get to actually watch it but I didn't hear Mez's name much so I just assumed he did fine.

Eh, it was pretty much the same old Mez.

Did Timonen have an actual injury, or did he just leave the game early for other reasons?

For this game? The official score sheet shows him with 11-8-11 shifts for each period (total of 30). The biggest gap was about four minutes in the second period.

Your announcers just said that he had gone to the locker room when there was like 2 minutes to go, it was right around when Calgary scored.

But nvm if it was nothing.

If there is a reference to cite, we will post it here but as of yet I haven't seen anything mentioned.

Edit: I checked Twitter and someone asked one of the writers who responded with "He's fine."

I know we won, but why does Berube have a hate-on for Gustafsson? He's been our best D overall this season, but he gets benched for inexplicable reasons sometimes. Both Meszaros and Grossmann (and really whenever Schenn hasn't been paired with Gustafsson for the most part) have been less impressive and useful then Gustafsson.

What in the hell has happened to Steve Downie?? Like others have said trade him and his wasted 2.65m cap hit and get anything you can for him before he walks and bring up McGinn. He'll give us a lot more than Downie would at a fraction of the cost.

This game wasn't much of a special teams battle so I don't like the times when comparing the 4th line to the 1st line. I know Jake's likely playing hurt & about to be headed off for Sochi but Giroux & Hartnell are about to sit on their ***** for the next two weeks so I don't know what he's saving them two from with the lower ice times.

It's really hard to fathom. And what does the constant scratching do to Gus' confidence? He probably doesn't know what he has to do to stay in the lineup.

David Strehle mentioned on Twitter that Berube had planned to split the last 2 games before the break between Mez and Gus. That doesn't really make sense to me but at least he wasn't benched as an "accountability" thing.

Alright, thanks.

Losing Timonen would have been too much for team Finland.

We've come to expect Timonen to rebound and deflect injuries to the point where we make jokes. Hopefully, he is injury free during and after the Games.
