Adam Tambellini had two goals in Calgary's win against Vancouver.

Adam Tambellini finds fast fit with Calgary Hitmen
Freshman centre leaves the NCAA for the WHL, hoping increased ice time will fast-track his development

By Steve Ewen, The Province

Tambellini has seemingly found a fast fit with Calgary, with five goals and 15 points in 13 games (17 points in 14 games after last night's game). In 16 games with North Dakota, he had two goals and four points.

“I think, for me, it was mostly a hockey decision,” said the 6-foot-3, 182-pound Tambellini, a 2013 third-round draft choice of the New York Rangers.

“I thought my development would be better playing more games.”

Next year will tell us a lot about Duclair.

Sometimes, when players have had great years in juniors and in their minds have nothing left to prove, when they go back, they seem to retrogress.

This seems particularly applicable to Duclair, who seems especially motivated to show that his fallen draft status last year was a mistake.

So next year, after attending Ranger camp and being sent back to the Q, if he cannot duplicate what he is doing this year, I would worry and be concerned about his makeup.

If, on the other hand, he can repeat this year's performance then I would know we have something special.

Next year will be especially interesting.

nieves line just had a great shift. psu goalie made some really good saves though to prevent them from scoring.

2-0 PSU now. both goals are really bad goals from michigans goalie. 2 horrible angled goals banked in off of the goalie.

3-0 PSU now. michigan goalie pulled. nieves was on the ice there. pretty **** job done by him preventing the goal. he was next to the shooter in the slot but didnt prevent him from getting the shot on goal.

camera guy is drunk.

midway through the 2nd, nieves had a great pass just after entering the zone on the rush to create a great chance but the psu goalie made the save.

nieves just hit the post from a shot in the slot.

period 2 ended with michigan on the PP. nieves was playing the left point. hes good with the puck and make quick accurate passes. im not sure why hes not more productive. ive only seen him a few times but when ive seen him he looks like a PPG NCAA player.

psu won 4-0. scoff played a great game in goal and psu did a good job of getting pucks to the net.

Good start for Tambellini in the CHL. I wonder if he consulted with Rangers management before making the switch.

Honestly I don't have a preference between CHL/NCAA for our prospects, as I think both routes have their advantages/disadvantages. If anything now it makes it easier for him to come to preseason tournaments, training camp, etc...

Two terrible goals let up by Nagelvoort.

Quebec down to Victoriaville 2-1 halfway through the 2nd. Quebec is playing a very bad game.

I would want The Duke to improve on this year. The most important thing for a prospect is to improve year to year. Failng to do that is a sign of being a bust. I would rather have an improving prospect with lesser stats than a stagnant prospect with better stats.

Quebec went on a good stretch of play and tied the game back up. Duclair scoreless, not very involved.

Quebec having an awesome period, but Duclair is still quiet. Game still tied.

Game going to overtime now.

Quebec lost in a shootout, Duclair had no shots in OT, and he missed his SO attempt.

No points for him.

Okay, that's Duclair's one allotted bad game for February.

Awards:
Tambellini finished with a goal and an assist. 19 points in 15 WHL games. I wasn't a huge fan of him running to juniors, but he's performing very well.

Skapski had another great game, stopping 32 of 34 shots. He's been red hot for a long time, and has the save percentage up to .917.

We have The King (Lundqvist), The Prince (The Bot) and now we have The Duke. We still need a Knight.

Val-d'Or is absolutely destroying Chicoutimi, 10-1. Some absolutely horrid goaltending and defense from them. Graves has one assist and is a +1 so far. He was on the ice for Chicoutimi's only goal.

Rangers could trade for Corban Knight from the Flames or Jared Knight from the Bruins

Not totally relevant but holy hell Jonathan-Ismael Diaby is having a hell of a season. Really wish we were able to snag him. I believe he was picked directly before our first pick of the 3rd round.

Duclair scored again, having a great game. Quebec up 2-0.

Though it should be noted, Sherbrooke is the worst team in the league. Way to represent guys.

Not to jinx him or anything, but it would be pretty cool if his 50th came as the third goal of a natural hatty.
