Scotiabank Place Scoreboard

Having been in a few different stadiums/arenas over the last few years, and having just been to the Bank to see two recent games, I have come to the painful, but obvious conclusion that our scoreboard sucks. I hate to whine, because in virtually every other way Scotiabank Place is a terrific building, just as good, if not better, than all the other new Canadian arenas of its age. (GM Place, Air Canada Centre, Bell Centre.) You'll note, however, that GM Place replaced its scoreboard this past off-season, getting themselves a bigger, more clear replay screen.

Are there any plans afoot to improve the screens at Scotiabank Place? If there aren't, there should be, as they are getting quickly antiquated compared to the newer ones out there. (The board installed at the Rogers Centre in 2005 is so big and clear that you sometimes find yourself watching that instead of the game itself...)

I 100% agree with you. SBP's screen has been terrible ever since it was the Palladium. Many arenas now have score boards that are simply an extremely large, clear HD screen that displays all game information, as well as replays, etc. This is much more clear and flexible. Beautiful.

I remember going to a Raptors game at the ACC during its first year, seeing the screen, and thinking that its exactly what the Corel Centre needed. Well, the technology has increased even since then, and yet our scoreboard is the same. That puts SBP in the stone ages.

Oh god, tell me about it. I went to a game recently in Boston and their scoreboard was a million times better. I think it would draw people in if we had a great scoreboard. Sure, the diehard fans will go regardless, but it will still draw people in.

I'd rather have caged and hungry interpretive dancers acting out replays and forming numbers and letters with their bodies to give score updates.

I'm just happy Melnyk stepped in when he did so we still have a team and our players no longer have to play for free. If he keeps on spending right up to the cap every year, I'd settle for a giant abacus.

If it brings up ticket prices, don't bother

I haven't seen others, so I wouldn't know.

But hey, we good attendance to games. That's really what matters

Didn't he not have a self imposed cap before?

Before they improve the giant TV, they might want to make sure they have stuff worth showing on the giant TV. For example, start by showing replays of plays and penalties. This is one of the most annoying parts of going to the game as opposed to watching at home (in addition to the parking situation, the fact our rink is in the least desirable location ever, and those terrible promotions during commercial breaks).

Seriously a retro scoreboard with guys in the rafters manually changing the numbers would be so much cooler than what any other rink has.

I was in Belleville for a girls tournament recently

They had the old school scoreboards were you move something down the numbers to indicate the score.

Then, for the time, they had just a clock with 50 min. or whatever, that went backwards.

And to boot, they had no boards around the arena. So everything is open. And the benches had 3 levels, and 1 door for the team, so the girls had to jump over the boards.

It was so classic I loved it.

That arena is so awesome. Spent a lot of time playing there.

The analog scoreclock there is the last of its kind in Ontario.

Now that you mention it, it's true that it's no good. They should really invest in a good, HD screen. When I go to games, I always check out the stuff they have before the games and constantly check the replays but the screen is so inadequate for the size of the place. The rest of the Bank though, is awesome.

The scoreboard will be changed to a new fancy one soon, I believe for next year.

I had never been there before,it was so funny. The girls really got a kick out of it.

I gotta say though, watch your teeth while sitting in the stands. I mean, when there was a Junior B game during there, watch out for the flying pucks
