LOL, Marty Brodeur?

"Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports the 41-year-old netminder is expected to spend the Olympic break mulling his options. If Brodeur decides to move on, Brooks considers the Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators as trade destinations."

Oh god, why? If Rinne's not back by the deadline we'll go with Dubnyk/Hutton and have no need to spend assets on Brodeur other than him being a former big name player, if Rinne IS back we have Rinne and Hutton/Dubnyk and have no reason to spend assets on Brodeur.

Does. Not. Make. Sense.

I would love it just to say Brodeur played here... but it would make zero sense.

Lol, anyone with a blindfold and a bag of players names and teams could be as accurate as eklund. Not taking this seriously at all, though I suppose its a flip of the coin on whether he's right or not.

I'm just going to say this, if Brooks is right to meet Nashville's needs and NJ's it would be Jagr + MB for Leipsic + 1ST + Prospect forward for this Peter Forsberg Special. I never say anything is impossible but this would be very hard

and very stupid seeing where we are in the standings right now.

Brodeur wants another Cup run, he's not going to OK a trade to Nashville, who is a longshot to make the playoffs even if a massive trade happened

Am I the only that sees this as a possibility? Brodeur may view Nashville as a place that was similar to his runs with the Devils. While we don't have the firepower they had upfront, we have the defense that he is accustomed to and thrives in. If he gets hot in the playoffs and with our D being as good as it is, it could actually be a better fit than you think. He is also a guy that has won the Cup and if we could acquire him to mentor the youth of the team and even Rinne, it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Will he come here in the end, no, but I could see it happening for the reasons above.

When you are the 6th worst team in the league, you should not be buyers. I'm sorry.

I'm with you, Enoch. At best some trades where we make 'even' trades, swap assets of surplus in org strengths that benefits each side or gives a player a change of scenery.

So who are we going to go after?

Why are we still buying into "Eklund rumors?"

6th worst team but 4 PTs from a playoff spot with Rinne coming back also all the teams in the hunt are having the same discussion. How many of them are say 'sell' instead of 'buy'?

I think we are both. I think the Preds will sell... and buy if a price is right.

Horrible trade for us.

The problem is that this isn't the 1994 version of Brodeur. The guy just isn't that good anymore. He's still probably better than Hutton (stats are similar), but if we're hoping he's going to get hot and get us into or deep into the playoffs - not gonna happen.

Neither of those guys have many NHL games left.

If we're buying, we need to make sure that this is a trade that can help us in '14-'15 or beyond.

Brodeur is a shell of his old self. He now has flashes but overall is just mediocre. He is not happy with the situation of his replacement already being brought in, he is 13-15 and was shelled in the big game of the year for the Devils and pulled. Just do not see any upside to bring him in.

I just have a hard time believing even Poile makes that move. I think the buy/sell thing will be based on what happens with Rinne, and I just can't see them being willing to get rid of anyone for a goalie who probably wouldn't be around past the end of the season anyways.

Do we have a shot at making the playoffs? Yes. Do we need to go out and trade a bunch trying to make a playoff run? I think long term it would be very foolish.

And then David Poile would be able to claim that he made the single worst trade in NHL history. I'm exaggerating. A little.

Eklund update: he mentions the Predators are in on Vanek and Ladd.

Vanek is awesome, but will cost a fortune and will sign with Minny in the offseason.

Ladd is the perfect Preds type player, but Winnipeg is competing for the same spot. Why would they trade him (unless we give them a ransom)?
