Should have taken Neal instead of Marleau. That third line would look even better. And get Subban in there instead of Vlasic.

The way things are going I fully expect Rask to have a Salo-moment at these Olympics, which will ruin his career forever.

I would say its a mistake to scratch Subban because Canada tends to have troubles scoring in these tournaments. But then I look at that d-core and I say... who cares. That d-core is scary good. Vlasic and Hamhuis are sort of vanilla, but both are very good at what they do.

Was somewhat amusing seeing Austria out in front 2-1, then reality set in. Hard to imagine Canada beating them by less than a touchdown.

Slovenia almost making up for the terribleness I had to watch this morning early.

The Slovaks must just have awful coaching. I mean they don't have the depth of Canada, Russia, etc, but they should be better than this debacle.

Poor Marincin... He's been quite good, but the forwards on this team are awful on the back check (plus Jurcina stinks).

Can anyone give an update on Marincin?
Who was he with?
Did he play much?
Play okay? ( well as okay as you can in a 7-1 loss)

He was -4, that pretty much sums it up.

Though, he showed some clever moves and he really had a hard time as his pairing was Jurcina, who must be one of the worst defenders at the Olympics.

But I guess the coach will stick with this pairing as Chara-Sekera and Meszaros-Baranka made even stats on the +/-, despite the Slovaks being totally outplayed.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated!

Hopefully the rest of the tournament treat him better

Playing 8 defense was a huge mistake for Slovakia, why on earth is Chara only getting 18 minutes of ice time?

Marincin, I thought, was quite good for most of the game. He made some excellent breakout passes and was solid along the boards. The problems for him came on the rush when he'd get pressed by the puck carrier and over compensate by covering his man (assuming one of his forward team mates would pick up the American follower) and a quick pass would leave the following American forward with plenty of time.

Sounds familiar.

Good to see Martin doing well vs. pretty much an All-Star team.

Missing the best stat... he was third in ice time among Slovakian dmen, apparently.

Does anyone know why this was? Considering he's on the third pairing, why did he beat out one of the top four?

He was on the second pairing, and Slovakia's defense is a mess. They played 8D and the only righty is Jurcina. Even Visnovsky is a lefty if the Islanders let him play.

Visnovsky is a lefty, but he has always played RD with the exception of the one year Crawford put him on the left in LA.
