It is an interesting sport.
I have heard that it developed from military training.
The Scandinavian countries have basically mastered this sport.

I believe it was Robin Williams who called it "Norwegian Drive-By".

4 points can be overcome.
It is to be expected...
Because Hanyu has a better short program than Chan...
And he has executed it perfectly in these games.

Chan's long program is arguably the best in the world.
If he nails everything...
He should be good.

I am expecting Chan to win the FS he is afterall the master of it, and if he wins that he wins the gold.....In 2010, the american came second in the short and won the FS which give him the gold medal

I am not worried.
Even if Chan mess up his jumps...
The judges love Chan's artistry...
And they will likely give him a high score.
I never understood it myself...
And I find his skates boring...
But I am not complaining.

His medal chances are very good.
I would put it at at least 90%.

However...
He had been so good for the last couple of years...
And he had been so hyped up...
That anything less than gold will be a disappointment.
It is a bit unfortunate.

It is a really weird record.
Canada has produced a number of world champions...
But none of them had been able to do it on Olympic ice.

I have to say...
Stojko got robbed in 94.
He arguably had the best skate.
98 was a gutsy effort...
And one that basically destroyed the rest of his career...
But the other guy was just better.

Kurt Browning is one example of a very good WC but was never sucessful at olympic....I guessing this could be Chan last olympics as older skater is harder to win. A gold medal would be nice

Chan is still just 24.
Lysacek won his medal at 27.
Chan can do one more...
If health permits...
And if he wants to.

Celebration... Italian style.

Women's 500-meter short track speedskating silver medalist Arianna Fontana of Italy, right, gestures as bronze medalist Park Seung-hi of South Korea, left, and gold medalist Li Jianrou of China pose with their medals.

And why you may ask? It is amazing that she finished not just won a medal.
If Italian short-track speed skater Arianna Fontana seems a bit more effusive than most, she has good reason. In the 500-metre final on Thursday, she and two other skaters got tangled up and went flying into the padding on the side, letting last-place Jianrou Li slide comfortably into a gold finish for China.

Elise Christie of Great Britain started the pile-up when she clipped Fontana. South Korea’s Park Seung-hi almost got away but lost her balance as well, leaving only one skater upright.

But despite Li getting past the accident scene and cruising toward the finish, Fontana scrambled to get back up and chased after second place, finishing six seconds behind first but still good enough to take home some silver. Park Seung-hi of South Korea took bronze.

Not the most graceful way to win a silver, but a silver nonetheless.

Éric Bédard...
Former Canadian short tracker...
Is now the coach of the Italian team...
And he is doing a very good job.
They are able to develop some good skaters in a very short time...
And these skaters are there with the world powers.
Well done to the Italians.
