(To balance out the salary we will insist that FLA takes Niinimaa off our hands since we are trading away our 1st Round Pick)
Of course we don't know if Jokinen is actually on the trading block, but honestly the Habs desperately need an impact centreman. There are rumours that Jokinen is feeling miserable playing for Florida, so I think he can turn it up a notch if he is playing on the same team with his good buddy Saku. You never know, Jacques Martin could be tempted to bite on this.
This trade makes more sense than trading for Forsberg because Jokinen is going to be around for a few more years, and this will have a huge positive impact on Saku because he won't have to carry the team by himself. It will be tough to give up on Ryder, but let's be honest he doesn't contribute to the team if he doesn't score goals.
There are 2 teams involved in a trade. In this proposal it's the Florida Panthers...if you were the gm of Florida, would you give up your young star player and captain for Ryder, Kosty and a 1st??????
We need LECAVALIER
+ there is more chances we have lecavalier than jokinen
tampa need goalies and tro free there cap space
... or ... Tampa is a playoff team, Lecavalier is even more expensive than Jokinen, and Tampa... well, let's say they don't have quite the same history of baffling moves that Florida does. So while Jokinen seems like an exceedingly unlikely target, Lecavalier truly looks like the impossible dream.
how about straka? didn't he play with kovalev in 2000-01 when he scored 44 goals? and straka has another year on his contract. what do you guys think. i dont see it happening but you never know

Especially with the year he is having this year, Montreal would have to severely overpay.

i really think gainey will try for a big north american center.
The only player Florida is willing to give up is Nathan Horton.
A young righthand-shooting center who can score. What's wrong with that? The year he was drafted I hoped the Habs could get Florida's pick for Ribeiro and Montréal's first and second.

Straka would rather stay with Jagr and Sather would agree with that. Maybe Robert Lang, who also played with Kovalev. He'll be a UFA.
I don't think FLO has any interest in trading Jokinen. Bertuzzi and Roberts would probably be more realistic targets.
But what do I know. Jokinen would be great, but I don't see him being moved, unless there is serious overpayment. Bertuzzi or Roberts I would welcome with opens arms though.
