Forsberg is (like many other Forsbergs) well-known in Sweden by the nickname "Foppa", which contrary to popular belief does not have any definite meaning like "puck wizard", but is just a Swedish hypocoristic of his last name.

No problem Mr.Hab, I was actually curious myself, so it gave me an excuse to look it up.

I agree that Price is too much for a rental, even a terrific one. But hey, if Gainey doesn't even want to trade a player like Grabo, there's no way we get all star material.

I would hate to give up our Belarussians, and Price to me is out of the question. Outside of that, anyone not on our active roster could be fair game.

Maybe Philadelphia is more confident they can bring over Emelin than we are, and they have interest in him?

I'm sure Gainey and co. love Chipchura, but if we figure that Plekanec is our third line center for a long time to come, maybe Philly is interested in his services? (though they might have Umberger penciled into that role already)

Halak is certainly an intriguing name. It could come back to bite us, but I would definitely think Philly would have some interest there.

I would see some kind of package like a first, Perezhogin, and Ryder. Or maybe the pick is conditional, say an 08 pick, being a first if he stays, second if he doesn't?

I really don't know what it would take to bring Peter in, but I'd love to see it.

Who's got the best chance to win the Cup ? Not Montreal for sure. Anaheim has good youngsters to give for Forsberg. If Philly gives him the choice (normal for a superstar player), he will pick Anaheim (because of their overall strength). or Detroit (because of their strong Swedish cast).

So forget it !

Be happy then ! We gonna keep our youngsters and be able to get rid of Samsonov and few other underachievers. But we will still have a hard time making the playoffs,again.....and again.... and again.......

Darren Dreger from TSN said, that Forsberg is headed to the Western Conference:

That's no secret at all, they won't trade them east, esp. to Montreal!

Why not? It's only for the rest of the year and Philly doesn't play Montreal again this year. It's not like trading Forsberg in the East can cause Philly to miss the playoffs, either -- that's a given already.

No but the team that gets Forsberg will most-likely sign him for next season, therebefore not in east.

I'm not sure it's as clear-cut as you think. I think it's more likely he'll pull a Doug Weight and resign with Philly.

In the end with what he would cost us in salary and players/picks in a trade, does Forsberg really bring what we need? He would instantly become the best player we have but in the end he is another setup man and not a goalscorer. Will he be able to turn some of our wingers into goal scorers that will make a difference?

Yes... he's Peter Forsberg. He could turn my grandmother into a goalscorer.

My question is who....Kovy who once scored 40+? Tendernesse? Ryder? I am guessing they are the three with the most chance.

I would love to see Ryder on Forsberg's wing. I think Forsberg would help him regain his touch. We could also put Higgins on that line, then throw Latendresse/Koivu/Kovalev together.

Asking what Foppa means is like asking what Sammy means.

Wait...*looks up Sammy in dictionary*

Whoops, my bad.

Well you might be right because there is one reason lol. From all the teams that wants Forsberg Montreal is probably gonna get the highest draft pick. Since they wanted a prospect and a pick

At this point, I'm very doubtful on the prospects of Forsberg coming to Montreal. He wants a chance at the cup. Does Montreal suddenly become a real cup contender with Forsberg in the lineup? And more to the point, does Forsberg think Montreal can win a cup this year? That's the real key in him deciding to waive the NTC.

That's what many people think. If they can go back to their November form plus have Forsberg in the lineup, it's not as crazy as it might sound. They'd not be Anaheim, maybe, but they could easily do some damage.

A guy like him can transform a team. Montreal remains a pretty good team, with excellent depth -- but they're missing that superstar, as we've amply lamented lately.

Then there's the offer. The Flyers are going to want the best offer, too.

I agree - the Habs would definitely look better with a player like that in the line-up. But what does Forsberg think of Montreal and does he believe they're a contender this year factoring himself in?

The offer will probably have a lot to do with it too because Forsberg would likely factor in the best interests for Philly - especially considering that by most accounts he's likely to want to return there next season.

I'm not in his head but consider: his skate guys are in Montreal, he respects Gainey and Carbonneau, it's an Eastern team so still that easy travel schedule, he still wouldn't have to play Philly or Colorado all year, and the team is ultimately still in a playoff position.

This is not to say that Forsberg will end up in Montreal, I'd say it was unlikely myself, but it's not completely impossible.

Foppa to Montreal Rumors Intensify

Well I am told that you can add Montreal to the list now for Peter. One thing is looking more and more certain. We will have resolution on Peter in the next 18- 72 hours. I would pay alot more attention around here tomorrow then you would on an average Sunday.
