That's more points than he will score in the next three years.

Zharkov is by far the youngest player on his team. Its a team full of over 25 veterans and he is only 19. Now that the Oilers own ECHL team.. its time to bring over our Russian prospects if the contracts allow.

Really the Oilers should leave them over there for another few years. Let them develop and then get them when they're half a season away from making the NHL. A little seasoning in the AHL then ready for call up. They'll be on their elcs as 24-25 year olds.

@coreypronman: Great first period from D Nurse. Probably has the best size:skating ratio among CHL D.

Nice little nugget from Corey Pronman, he raves about Nurse.

Edit:

One more:

@coreypronman: Nurse gets hit, starts bleeding from the head, keeps playing shift.

The hit was a weird play. nurse was close to the glass and the Guelph player came in and hit him. I have watched the replay a few times and it is really hard to tell of the Guelph player got his elbow up or not. it does look like Nurse was cut by his visor, and there was lots of blood. Cut was on is forehead. He did miss a few shifts but is playing a regular shift now.

Which one of our prospects do you guys think will have a legit NHL career? I know as fans when a player has a good CHL year we get all giddy but being 20 yrs old and producing in the CHL doesn't really mean too much.

Of our CHL prospects right now I think Nurse is a bonafide NHLer, and Moroz/Khaira have an outside chance. Not completely sold on Chase, Platzer or Marco Roy. Don't know enough about Houck or Betker.

Nurse 2 assists & +2 in 5-3 loss.

Platzer with 2 goals tonight.

Chase 1-1 and - 1.

I'll rank the percentage chance of our CHL guys to make an NHL roster:

Darnell Nurse- 100%- There is no doubt he plays in the NHL.
Mitch Moroz- 95%- I have great confidence he'll be in the show as a 3rd or 4th liner.
Jujhar Khaira- 75%- Great size and complete game shutdown third liner IMO.
Marco Roy- 50%- Good tools, undersized, injury issues.
Greg Chase- 50%- Has the makings of a good role player.
Jackson Houck- 30%- I really like Houck he has size and grit, bottom sixer.
Kyle Platzer- 15%- My pick as a big dark hoarse, NHL release and a hard worker. Still a longshot.
Ben Betker- 10%- Big and mean skating not as bad as I initially thought but lacks hockey sense.

I'll add that this is the happiest I've been with our prospect pool in some time, lots of potentially great bottom six role players and stud defencemen.

Oilers fans are like a wounded dog when it comes to getting exited about prospects but things are shaping up nicely in the pipeline IMO.

I think nurse is the only one i would say with confidence unfortunately.

Is marincin still considered a prospect?

Him and klefbom perhaps to play but dmen don't tend to develop well for us. Or we don't tend to develop dmen well. Take your pick.

Weird.

I've seen him live three times, and he makes a lot of easy plays and doesn't force much. His hockey IQ isn't his downside IMO whatsoever. He engages at wrong times, but it's not glaring.

His overall ability is what holds him back, IMO. He's a very capable skater, but doesn't possess a shot or much of a passing ability. That, though, can be taught. Then again, he didn't get ANY PP time, but played on PK quite a bit in his showings. Also, he wasn't very mean. He played hits when he was supposed to, to rub players off of the puck (again, his IQ isn't bad whatsoever), but was beaten several times on the outside, as his lateral skating isn't the greatest.

He's actually a very capable player though. His skating, and his hands are surprisingly very good considering his size.

Khaira, in my viewings was used in a shutdown role which sucked (I wanted to see him in an offensive role, but I get how this depth would help). I've only seen him twice, as he was injured the first Everett game I took in. Anyways, his speed has a lot to be desired. We saw him in Penticton, and the preseason, and he looked alright, but outside of holding a decent top speed, his first few steps and maintaining a competitive speed against rivals on their attack in our zone needs quite a bit of work.

His shot is also below average, but his head is ALWAYS on a swivel. It's amazing how many times he would battle in his own, or the opposite zone and he would hold the puck on the boards until kicking or passing it out at the exact time his teammate would appear.

This isn't a fluke. It happens a lot.

Anyways, Betker likely won't make it without proper development, and the same goes to Khaira, but he has a much higher hockey IQ.

We'll see..

Has anybody entertained the idea of the Oil Kings acquiring Jujhar Khaira?

Trade deadline was in January. And Khaira is likely in OKC next year so that won't happen.

Besides, he was/is doing well in Everett and they are a good team in there own right.

I thought maybe we would go after Houck.

Here's a link to the highlights of Greg Chase last night 1 goal and 2 assists.

Chase's two assists and goal start at the 2:10 mark.

Greg Chase has great vision and passing ability.

Just found this article about the Kessy trade:
http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/201...tobias-rieder/

Among rookies he is 6th in goals with less games as all in front of him. With as many games as the other he would only be behind Granlund and maybe Strome.

This doesn't belong in the Oilers prospect thread, Rieder is a prospect for the Coyotes.

That being said I still don't think anyone has won or lost this trade, Kessy is the type of player that we need, and one will take more time to develop at each level, he brings great toughness and has shown scoring ability, this trade could bite us in the ass hard but as of now it still too early.

Thanks for the article. Interesting read.

But yeah, let's leave it at that. We don't need another thread to fill with Kessy vs. Rieder discussion again.

Chase also had 2 assists in a 8-1 win (Adam Tambellini had a hattrick, kid is lighting it up to start his WHL career)
Platzer win an assist in a 3-1 loss
Marco Roy with a goal and an assist
John McCarron scored Cornell's only goal in a 3-1 loss
Dillon Simpson with 1 of the Sioux's 9 goals
Even Campbell scored 2 goals in a 3-2 win on Friday

I wonder what's up with Campbell.

Started the season with 1 point in 18 games, but now has 6 points(5g 1a) in his last 6 games.
