Give it a rest, Jordan Staal is one of the most overrated players in the NHL $6 million for what, a decent shutdown center? Bozak is not better but he does a similar job for $1.8 million less. Keep Jordan Staal, the Leafs will keep their talented young center. Giroux broke out when he was 23, Kadri has shown his potential and is having a fine season. If it were not for Bozak and Bolland being injured, he probably has a similar ppg to last year.

Take out the 1st and add in another asset that has some salary heading back to Carolina and then maybe...

What about somerthing like this...

Kadri
Kulemin
Gardiner
Franson

for

Staal
Harrison

Sure Eric Staal is a great player but moving Kadri+Gardiner+1st is just horribad asset management. For 1 the Leafs are not contenders at the moment and in 2-4 seasons when they are Eric Staal won't be the player he would need to be. On top of that Kadri would prob be a better player by that time. The Leafs need to keep Kadri and their 1st's. Unless a situation comes up similar to how Dion was acquired for a young 1st line C then keep what we have. Kadri should be of 1st line C caliber soon enough. IMO if the Leafs can resist the urge to trade their youngsters they will be in amazing shape in 3 yrs.

First...it was mentioned in a few of the replies that it should be Jordan Staal for Kadri, Gardiner and a 1st. Kadri alone is worth more than Jordan. He has outperformed him the last 2 years, is younger and on a much better contract.

As far as Eric, he is turning 30 this year and seems to have rounded out to be a 70-80 point big bodied centre. He also has a cap hit of 8.25m which at 80 points a year is 100k/point.

Kadri right now is a mid 50 point centre, and as he reaches his peak development (27-30 years old) who knows what he might be. My guess is a solid 65-75 point centre. Is Eric a better player right now? Sure. But Kadri is currently signed at 2.9m which at 60 points a year is 2 points/100k. So he is a better value in terms of dollar/points ratio.

Now to throw in a 1st and Gardiner for the 15-20 points more that Eric might get you is an overpayment. Is Staal the better player right now. Yes without a doubt. But Kadri is younger, cheaper, and has room to grow. And to be honest, his production isn't that far off from Eric, and he plays less than Eric with second line players.

From Toronto's stand point, I would say no, stay with the youth movement and see where is goes
.
This ^^

Jordan Staal is currently more effective, but that may change. Kadri has upside and he's not far off from reaching it.

I'd do it for Toronto. Carolina declines we'd need to upgrade Gardiner to Rielly for Carolina to even bother considering, but still declining imho.

LOL. I would not even trade Kadri for Jordan.
