Trades that Poile almost made!

Does anyone know of any trades that Poile almost pulled off?
I remember two Rick Nash and Phil Kessel.

Ryan Ellis for Boston's first round pick (9th overall) in 2011. It was reported as done but looked to be conditional based on Couturier being there.

I don't think the Rick Nash thing was that close. Nash never had Nashville on his short list nor was Columbus going to trade him within the division.

I have no idea how close it came to happening but I do think the rumors that he was seriously working a deal for ovechkin are true.

The Ovie to Nashville was an Eklund rumor wasn't it?

I honestly don't remember from where (very convincing, I know) but I have also heard a lot of chatter that it was actually a trade that was discussed. Weber+Wilson+? (Weber wasn't quite what he is now at that point.

Maybe it's just chatter, maybe it had something to it.

The Kessel one and the Ellis for Boston's pick (coots) are the only ones I remember being "locks" basically.

If I remember correctly it was Weber plus the pick that was used to move up to get Wilson (9th over all) and another 1st

Pretty sure it was Suter, Dumont, Zidlicky, and 2 1sts for Ovechkin + Kolzig

The rumor came up just before he signed his extension. So if there was any substance to this, it's because Washington was simply exploring what options were out there before inking him to that monster contract. It wasn't just an Eklund rumor, there were Nashville 'sources' confirming it as well.

I'm trying to recall more rumors...

Ponikarovsky at the trade deadline

I vaguely remember Nashville's name when Mike Richards was traded. Not sure about Carter

If the Islanders had picked Hedman at #1, I remember there being a deal in place with Tampa for Tavares (they had just drafted Stamkos and needed dmen)

Man I haven't heard that one before. What a treat that would've been.

Not a trade, but we were in the running for Martin St Louis when he signed his 700K contract with Tampa Bay.
