Maybe this was covered already but why haven't I seen Brian Williams on CBC? Not really complaining; just curious. He was such a fixture in past Olympic broadcasts.

He left for CTV right before the Vancouver Olympics.
I believe he is still in contract with CTV.

...
The expectation of the sports-mad Norwegian public was that its team, which has won more Winter Olympic medals than any other country, would prove it was the best in the world in Sochi by winning about 16 gold medals. With the Games now half over, it has only won four.
And the culprits being fingered?
Norway is doing worse in almost every sport compared with how it did in Canada four years ago. While its alpine racers and men’s curling team have been weaker than expected, most of the hysteria has been directed at its cross-country and biathlon athletes, who are revered at home as Canada’s hockey players are. They have been blamed for not racing well enough.

Anger is being directed at its team of ski waxers. They are considered to be the most knowledgeable in the world, but have been unable to figure out how to prepare for the warm snow conditions that have existed here since these Olympics began.

The outrage has reached such heights that Norway’s lead waxer, Knut Nystad, told one journalist: “Take us out behind the shed and shoot us” and told another newspaper that “my wife has (jokingly) told me that the best I can hope for now is that they fire me.”
http://www.canada.com/olympics/colum...s-is-a-failure
Norway not medaling at all in cross-country relay is very much equal to Canada not medaling in men's hockey and perhaps getting just bronze in women's, it is a huuuuge upset. It feels even better that Sweden won gold in both of them, as Norway have been pretty obnoxious with their cross-country medals the last decade.

After the failure at the men's relay too, the Norwegian head coach for Cross-country answered some questions:
http://www.vg.no/sport/ol-2014/artik...artid=10122405

Nystad had responded to questions from Norwegian and international press in around 20 minutes after he had arrived at Aftenposten reporter.

- What have you to say to the nation, asked the journalist.

- No, we must apologize for the poor results. We can't do anything else.

- But what is the explanation?

- If you have an explanation you can go to the wax-shed and tell us. We can pay you quite a bit for that.

- Because?

- Yes, I assume you have an answer as you are so bloody intelligent.

- Is that all you have to say?

- Yes.

During the cross country relay...
The best comment is still:
"The Finns kept up with the Swedes because of pure hatred."

Kramer will do something special in the 10,000m.
That is the race I am most interested in.

It really does make a difference doesn't it? He's such a cornerstone for Olympic broadcasts in Canada. Although Scott Russell has done a good job IMO

I'm so sad.

So can we say that there's a fix in short track too?

hard to knock hamelin too much as a guy that's already won 3 olympic gold medals...feel bad for the guy because he obviously wanted that 500m so much

it's nice to have these high expectations for short track speed skating...bit worried for 2018 when hamelin and co perhaps retire because there's not alot of talent in the pipeline

You know, I guess this silver in 3000m relay is a nice consolation but, man, Hamelin...

It is the ice.
They do not shave it...
And only flood it.
It creates a lot of uneven surfaces.

I am not too worried about short track.
It always seem to produce great talents.

Just think Virtue and Moir are considering "retiring" from the Olympics at 24 and 26.

Don't let your cheeto stained fingers depress you... lol

Kallie Humphries sitting 2nd in the 1st Run, 0.13 Seconds back. With 3 runs to go she's within striking distance but the American Sled is gonna be tough to catch, they set a track record and start record. There is another American sled right behind Kallie as well. Big drop off after that at this point and all the top teams have gone.

Sven Kramer did not do it...
And came in second.
That was a bit disappointing.

Still...
Another Dutch sweep in long track.
They are killing it.

Classic James Duthie.
Canada leading the Olympics in silver medals, which is basically a more polite way to dominate. #owntheleftsideofthepodium
