Morin w/ a goal and assist last night.

Has fallen down to a .56 point per game player.

Bill Meltzer has an article up on Morin. Thinks we should leave him in Jr for another year then play a few in the AHL. Be patient with his development.

The AHL, no probably not. I could see them sending him back to Rimouski though for another year.

I'd much rather he get some type of leadership role on the phantoms than get bottom pairing minutes with the big club..

they did it with Laughton but it was more about our depth, Laughton showed that it was the right decision to send him down so ....

Laughton had 2 assists in a 6-3 loss. An even +/-.

I bet Morin makes the team. Just too many reasons for him to come in. Hopefully it works out either way with him

If Gostisbehere signs I could see that holding them off until another year for Morin.

75 points in 45 games now. Oshawa has 11 games left in the season.

I think the two are independent of one another.

I'm just not sure if there's going to be enough spots open again next year. I think most of the spots opening up will be filled via free agency or trade.

I just can't see both of them making the roster next year (assuming Gostisbehere signs) & I would give the edge to Gostisbehere over Morin right now because his offensive prowess.

Streit-Coburn
Gus-Schenn
Ghost-UFA/Alt/Grossmann

I would love to have Ghost sign. And I expect Morin to spend 1 more year in the QMJHL. I want Grossmann gone, but he is still signed so, the Flyers may not get rid of him. I also would not totally mind trading Coburn as well, as long as we sign a quality defenseman in free agency.

I don't expect both of them in the lineup next year, I'm just saying they bring two completely different games to the table and one has nothing to do with the other. Morin's not a guy you're going to leave a spot open for next year anyway. If he's going to make the team he's going to force his way on.

I know they're two different styles, I meant it like the Flyers being satisfied having at least a young cheap defender on the roster.

It will be interesting to see how Morin, Hagg and Gostisbehere are transitioning timing wise. It's hard to picture the Flyers wanting multiple rookie defenseman playing simultaneously, particularly post-Timonen.

Realistically I do doubt they all see the Flyers jersey. I like them all, I really do, but I have prepared myself for a few scenarios.

One making the team, one being traded and one not living up to expectations.

One being a top 4, one being a 5/6 and the other not transitioning well.

Honestly, I do hope all three make it. I'd even be extremely happy if 2 of the 3 become just regulars. Each one has it's flaws though, and its very up in the air which, if any, overcome them.

The coach doesn't really trust Gus, so Ghost or Morin (who being rookies would almost certainly make a lot more mistakes per minute) would be on a super tight leash. I don't think either one of them should start next season as full time regulars.

I have trouble believing that Berube doesn't trust Gus. He wouldn't play him 20+ minutes some nights if he didn't trust him. I just think Berube is a coach that likes the get all his players involved. I don't really get it, but he probably has his reasons.

Anyway, with Morin, I agree with Meltzer. I think he should spend at least another year in juniors. I would like to see him get 9 games with the big club (it is 9 games right?) just to see what he's got, though. I think that would help with his development too.

Berube plays Gus when he plays him but he also got some good play out of Meszaros. That's the way it goes when you've got 6-7 spot Dmen playing well and, knock wood, your top 5 are mostly healthy. I'm sure Homer will try to trade Meszaros if he can, but if he can't he might as well keep him. When Timonen went down, both Gus and Mesz played and we beat two of the best teams in the league in their barns.

I agree on Morin staying in Jr. next year for sure.

Assuming Mesz leaves, the only opening on D will depend on whether Timonen wants to come back. If he leaves, there is a room for another puck mover, which could open up a spot for Gostibehere if he turns pro and is ready - which I also doubt. As good as he will be, he might need a year in the AHL, like Krug did.

With these five under contract or RFA, it depends on Kimmo and UFAs or, more likely, trades, given the slim UFA pickin's.

X - Coburn
Grossmann-Streit
Gus-Schenn

Let's see how the trade deadline pans out.

Ghost is likely going to have to be eased in to the pro game. going from 30 something to 76 games(AHL season) is not going to be easy especially for a defenseman. Probably going to have to be put thru a pretty good offseason conditioning program. Guessing if they sign him if will be very soon after Unions season ends. this year or next year.

It's possible both could make the team. I know back in 06-07, the San Jose Sharks had both Matt Carle and Marc Edouard Vlasic in the lineup for the entire season and both were rookies. I agree though that they're going to have to force the Flyers hand though in making roster spots for both of them if they manage to crack the roster.

I want the Flyers to do what they can to keep these young guys in the AHL for a few years and THEN have a bigger impact on the team when called up. Wouldn't it be nice to have a mid-season call up that produces so you don't miss a beat. Fill the gap between now and then with UFA's and trades.
