I won't get into the Arabic vs Muslim dichotomy.

So I'll just jump in and say that Laziza and Almaza are two fine brews from Lebanon.

In Montreal, you can find them in restaurants sometimes but rarely in any other alcohol selling venue. *Cough* SAQ... *cough*

As for the dichotomy, I know that the overlap is not 100%, on both sides. My mother is in Malaysia right now (she takes off for somewhere warm every year now, for 2 months time in the dead of winter), and has mentioned the paucity of wine. I am also aware that some Muslim countries have a more "secular" attitude than others, which is like drawing conclusions through Bible-belt southern US to so-called "Catholic" Quebec, compounded by the fact that there is no single authority to "pontificate" (if you'll excuse the Christianism) in a manner mitigating the instructions in the Koran.

I have good friends from Lebanon in Montreal (well, Kirkland). Maybe I can get them to keep some on hand when I am there next, before we get to the Arak.

Now you're talking...

I have some premium Arak at home and will make sure to have several poutinites taste it this weekend.
