I'm sure the team would have sent him down, if he had been ready for it.
He's allowed to go down on February 19th, which would still get him a few games prior to the NHL returning on the 27th. If he's ready, that is.

The freeze itself lasts until 25th, but conditioning assignments can be done already since 19th. Well covered, thanks.

BTW...LOL @ "much .500".

While we need him back for the stretch run, I hope he's not rushed. Not worth the issues it could cause with the rest of that long contract.

@JoshuaCooper: Pekka Rinne on the ice. This is his first time with the team practicing since his second hip surgery in late October ...

Great news. Any updates on if he's taking shots or just doing skating/stretching drills?

Here's what was said after that.

First game back from the Olympics is the 27th. Trade deadline is the 5th. My hope is he can play by the 5th and he 's had 3 AHL starts by then. If not, just rehab him till the end of the season and sell

Milwaukee signed Hannu Toivonen to a second PTO. Scott Darling was called up from Cincinnati. Pekka Rinne practiced with Nashville this morning.

As the Admirals Roundtable pointed out, that makes 7 goalies between Nashville and Milwaukee.

Do you think that Mazanec or another goalie is going to be traded?

He's been somewhat unspectacular in Milwaukee... I don't know who'd be a buyer for him?

We already have enough bags of pucks.

It was an infection. It's either gone or not, playing doesn't change it

Yup.

OddS are they are being easy because its been a while and they don't want him pulling anything or having a set back due to something unrelated.

Didn't he have to go through a second surgery to get rid of it?

I believe he had a scope performed with the goal of flushing out the infection.

Wasn't that more or less exploratory?

Maybe it was minor enough. I wasn't sure if he had to recover from the surgery.

I don't think the surgery is the reason its taken so long, odds are it was a tiny incision they used to drain the area or just take a peak and make sure something weird wasn't causing it ( like someone left something in there)

Poile is probably just lining up his pieces to make a move before the trade deadline if the right opportunity arises. Pekka's progress over the next two weeks will likely drive the decision to trade one of the goalies in the system.

I can't see giving up on Maz yet based on his play with the Preds even though he's been average with the Admirals. Hellberg is still developing as well. Saros will likely stay in Europe next year. So does Darling's contract mean Hellberg or Maz is the odd man out? Or just that one of the two will back up Pekka next season.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Hutton and Dubnyck are both UFAs at the end of the season?

Why not? Hutton & Dubnyk are UFA's dumping both overboard would be a slight annoyance. You are down to 5. There was a rumor of the Preds trading for Brodeur creating a. 1a 1b situation. Which would be great for Rinne to ease back into the lineup. Do the Preds have a plethora of backups? Yes. Would NJ be interested in that? Yes.

Rinne is apparently waiting for the doctors to OK him being back on the ice. This may or may not be a good thing.
