The Checkers have been out on the road, and played a back-to-back-to-back this weekend against the 1st place Texas Wildcatters. The Checkers came away with 3 points from a win, a loss, and an overtime loss.

Right now, the Checkers' record is 12-9-0-1, whcich gives them 25 points and 4th place in the South Division. They've scored 76 goals and given up 72.

Roster Changes:

DEL Rick Kozak, F (recalled to Hartford, reassigned to CHL Memphis)
DEL Matt Deschamps, D (traded to ECHL Phoenix for future considerations)
ADD Bryan Rodney, D (signed to ECHL contract)

Scoring (After 22 Games):

Lee 10G23A-33Pts. (4th in ECHL)
Graham 14G8A-22Pts.
Potter 5G7A-12Pts.
Constant 2G9A-11Pts.
Oullette 2G4A-6Pts. (19G)
Falardeau 4G1A-5Pts. (6GP)
Bahensky 2G2A-4Pts. (20GP)

Holt: 8W7L 3.36GAA .893SV%

Probably should mention the huge line brawl that Pensacola started while they were down 5-0. 7 players tossed, with a 'cola player getting a double game misconduct for jumping in to another fight and deliberate attempt to injure (basically used his helmet to bludgeon a Checker)

ADD: Brent Henley of the Ice Pilots got a 4 game suspension for his antics.

I saw a couple of games here in Gwinnett and both Graham & Potter have zero business playing in the ECHL. The only rationale that I can agree with is that they would not be getting the same quality minutes if they were in Hartford.

In the blowout game, 8-2 that the Checkers lost on Thanksgiving night, Potter was on for 1 PP goal against and I think that one was a 5 on 3. Very fluid on his skates, very good lateral movement. He is by no means a banger, but he marks his man well and is physical when physical play is required, i.e. he doesn't run around looking to make a big hit and ends up taking himself out of the play.

Graham is not a banger either. He does use his size as a offensive weapon, in that he uses it to shield the puck from defenders. Once he matures a bit physically and adds some muscle that translates into good poundage, I think his game will move up a notch.

Both players should be in the next wave that go up to Harford next year when several Hartford players move up to the NYRs roster.

I wish we signed Potter to an NHL contract, now any team and try to sign him to NHL contract at end of the year like we lost Guenin.

The Checkers agreed to terms with defenseman John Donnelly a 27 year-old pro in his 4th professional season. Donnelly is listed as 6'4" 205lbs and has played in the ECHL, UHL, and CHL since graduating from St. Norbert College. He played 6 games for the Tulsa Oilers and New Mexico Scorpions earlier this season scroing 2 goals. His best pro season was 2005-6, when he totaled 1 goal and 18 assists plus 96 PIM for UHL Elmira.

Also, Jake Taylor will resume playing hockey this season this week on a conditioning assigment in Charlotte.

The Checkers lost a clutch game in Charlotte today, going down to the Inferno 3-2. The loss plus South Carolina's win over Texas, drops the Checkers into 6th place and out of a playoff spot. The Checkers put 45 shots on goal (13 by Jessiman), but Gherson stood on his head to deny the Checkers.

1A for Lee. 28 saves for Holt

when u got a first round pick and a few 2ed round picks in the ECHL, it tells me 2 things. Either A) U got great prospect depth. which in this case I dont think so B) they were picked way too early and considered a bust..

I'm glad to see that Jessiman is putting himself in a place to score some goals. Good for him. Hope he can make it back to the Pack and play well.

Jessiman, Graham, and Falardeau all are certainly playing well enough to warrant callups to the AHL if the Wolf*Pack were floundering or were a team full of scrubs, but they aren't and they aren't. The Rangers/Pack have signed a LOT of players and make more use out of their ECHL affiliate than any other team in hockey I know of.

BTW, off the top of my head, early-round draftees spending a lot of time in the ECHL this season include: Sasha Pokulok, Devan Dubnyk, Roman Tesliuk, Cory Urqhart, and Brian McConnell.

Fast skater, plays 2-ways, loves to agitate. Also his numbers look better when you consider that he scored in the first game of the season and didn't score for about 2 months after that. For example, his January numbers are 5G8A-13Pts in 11GP, with a +7 and 6 roughing minors.

However, the real reason Bahensky was called up instead of Jessiman or Graham (other than the fact that he fits into a bottom/checking line role better than Jessiman or Graham) is a new ECHL rule that was enacted this season.

Basically, it requires players on AHL contracts assigned to ECHL teams to play at least 7 games in the AHL or be ruled ineligible for their team's ECHL Playoff Roster. It doesn't effect players on NHL contracts like Jessiman or Holt. This rule came about after last year when the Florida Everblades had a ridiculous amount of AHL-signed players on their roster (15 at one point), most of whom were brought in to boost the ECHL team rather than as candidates to move up to the AHL.

Exceptions:

*Goalies
*Each team can declare 2 players exempt, but at least 1 must be a rookie
*Players considered ECHL Vets (260+ GP) must play at least 10 games in the AHL

The Checkers players this applies to are:

Westlund (Exempt)
Lee (Qualified)
Potter (Needs 4 Games)
Bahensky (Needs 3 Games)
Constant (Needs 4 Games)
Oullette (Needs 7 Games)

Looks like the plan is to get Bahnesky and Potter some games, and declare Constant and Oullette exempt, so no one will have to sit for the playoffs.

Checkers with a big OT win on the road agianst the South Carolina Stingrays 4-3. Big Bruce Graham with the hat trick, including the OT winner. Jessiman with 2 assists and a fight. Falardeau with a goal, and Lee with an assist. Holt made 36 saves for the win.

The Checker gain ground and are currently 1 point out of a playoff spot. They play Augusta tomorrow and Gwinnett Sunday, with Holt playing both games.

The Checkers lost a must-win game in Augusta last night, blowing a 2-goal lead to lose 5-4 and are now 2 points out of a playoff spot. Assists for Graham, Oullette, and Constant. Holt saved 32 out of 37.

The Checkers have an afternoon game today at Gwinett, but their bus broke down in rural Georgia and the team spent much of the night out there with no heat. Holt will be plaing his 3rd game in less than 72 hours against another divisional rival.

Checkers won this afternoon at Augusta 3-2. Oullette and Jessiman had 1G1A each (and teamed up the game-winner on a shorthanded 2-on-1). Graham potted another goal and Constant got an assist. Holt made 30 saves for the win. The Checkers are now tied for 5th place in the South Division with a game in hand.
