He really will look like some cartoon of Death/Frankenstein/The Terminator in Sochi…. you know the press will be all over it

Might be good for team USA. The team can say hey even our management takes shots.
All kidding aside I hope he's giving to be OK.

Rumor is that this pass hit Poile very solidly in the head. He was heard to have mumbled something about immediately seeking offensive talent for the hockey team. At that point, Pete Weber had a heart attack. Again, not confirmed.

Geez Shea, do you get some kind of bonus for most friendly fire hits?

Wish a speedy and full recovery for Poile!!

Predators General Manager David Poile underwent two successful surgical procedures in the nose and eye areas and received stitches to repair a facial laceration suffered yesterday when hit by an errant puck during the Predators' morning skate at Xcel Energy Center. He is resting and recovering and will remain in the hospital for further observation. His return to Nashville is yet to be determined and is pending doctors' evaluation and recommendation. At this point, he will not travel to Sochi as originally planned with Team USA on Sunday, but he does look forward to joining Team USA during the Olympics.

Poile doesn't need to go Sochi if it's at all serious. His work is done as a team USA GM, and he just should be a spectator at this point.

I'm sure some will say he needs to give the coaches advice or whatever. But honestly, guys like Dean Lombardi are better "advice givers" for clutch games anyway.

He is currently blind in that eye. Sorry - I fail to see any humor in it.

How come he has an opaque cover which he can see through it?

He's going to make a full recovery.

I'm sure Poile and others have laughed it off.

But yes, you probably are holier than me.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The general manager of the U.S. hockey team and the Nashville Predators says the errant puck to the face two weeks ago has left him unable to see out of his right eye.

Doctors remain hopeful some vision may return.

David Poile may not see again out of his right eye after taking a puck to the face. That's not stopping the general manager of the U.S. hockey team and the Nashville Predators as he returns to work.

"I'm not trying to be a hero or anything else," Poile said Thursday. "This is not a good situation. It is difficult but I have to, and want to, move on. . There's different adjustments that (I'm) going to have to make, but there's lots of people that have lost an eye and they're operating very well and I have to be one of them."

Never thought it was going to be this serious. Hope he manages to adapt sooner rather than later.

"The nose cast is going to come off soon, I fractured my nose in three different places, the orbital bone was broken above and below the eye, and 40 stitches above the eye. They have done a fabulous job there," said Poile, who also said he had several stitches in his eye.
stitches in the eye itself suggests what is referred to as a ruptured globe.

not a great prognosis for regaining his sight, but he seems to be taking it well.

…cue the jokes about our Poile robbing another GM blind… Poile could make a better trade than (other GM) with one eye closed… etc…

Man I feel bad for DP.
Hockey aside, I do think he's a very good person.

I know it was a freak accident but Weber and whoever he passed the puck to must feel awful. The odds of getting hit like that in the tunnel must be astronomical.

The Preds better be making decisions on the management structure asafp, because this may be our only/last chance to change things from top to bottom (yes, I still believe we need a top to bottom clean sweep)

Injury is worse than mist thought it looks like. That's rough i hope things go as best as they can. Side note i hope it knocked some sense and urgency in him to bring the Preds back to being a contender

Poile: Blinded

David Poile lost the sight in his right eye from the puck incident in Minnesota.

Discuss.

They hope its only temporary but if not maybe Poile will start wearing an eye patch and demand he be addressed as Poile the Pirate. He then goes on to become famous for plundering all the NHL teams young talent for aging vets and draft picks.
