Boynton is a reliable D not having the greatest season but he's under contract for 2 more years at under 3M per.

Doan is a rental but is a physical rugged player with the ability to put the puck in the net.

In my opinion judging by what Nagy went for, I think a reasonable proposal, could be something as was proposed earlier in this thread,

Ryder, O'byrne and a 1st. Perhaps a bit more would need to be given, even a return rental in Rivet would be possible, the team is already 8 Dmen deep bringing in a ninth is pointless. I could see Gretz appreciating a veteran presence and thinking that they could re-sign him.

Regardless of my rambling I could see this being very good for the habs and a very appealing possiblity for BG.

A young man can hope.
I guess I'm a little biased since it was my proposal but...

I don't think it's realistic to compare Souray's value with Nagy. Sadly, we would need to look at what Stuart fetched.

Ok now, thanks yotes, you just raised the price of all UFA's.

Ok now.. I ask you this:

Nagy = 41 pts
Stumpel = 42 pts.

Does this mean stumpel = 1st rounder.
My friend, a panther fan is bothering me saying that MTL should send a 1st for stumpel.

Guerin costs nothing... that makes it increadibly more valuable than several other players. Still, I don't think the solution for Montreal is in Forsberg, Fedorov, Tkachuk or Doan. Maybe Doan if he could play center, but still, the priority is to get a center IMO.

Montreal needs a good center that can shoot and isn't afraid of the traffic (because we can't count on all wingers to do so).

Sadly, Viktor Kozlov would have been IMO a better UFA signing than Samsonov for Montreal. Still Stumpel might be available from Florida.

That's about right. There are probably a couple of minor differences, though:

1. If the draft was tomorrow, Dallas would pick 24th, we'd pick 17th.

2. Dallas basically has all of their core players locked up already for next year... Modano, Morrow, Lehtinen, Zubov, Turco, Boucher... they don't project to have much in the way of cap problems, and hence should be in a much better position to re-sign Nagy in the summer should he impress them than we would be.

I don't think Nagy was on our list anyway, but it's nice to see that officially confirmed, and I certainly wouldn't have given up a 1st rounder for him.

Souray would easily fetch twice what Brad Stuart got for Boston if put on the market. There are so many few Dmen on the market, nvm one who is physical, willing to drop the glove and scoring like crazy. a 1st and a good prospect easily.

Don't try telling that to the Trade Rumors board.

They are always wrong anyway in their proposal when real trade happens...

Anyway, disagree Souray would fetch at the very least a 1st and a good prospect?

If Nagy got a first and a dead-weight contract, I see no real reason why Souray wouldn't get what you posted, especially when you consider how rare defensemen are on the market currently.

Most of the people on the Trade board who consider themselves experts saw Souray get undressed by Spezza and Briere last year and decided he's nothing but a slapshot on skates looking for a big contract next year.

Don't 3 of these guys have a no-trade clause? The only one I see waiving it to go to Montreal is Forsberg.
