A 20 year old half-Canadian drafted from the OHL who had a slow start to his first AHL season (after scoring more goals in the SHL as a U20 than any since Sedin, Naslund, Hornqvist, Forsberg), and its time to cut our losses?
To be fair its not like SEL/SHL has produced a lot of goal scorers since Hornqvist, who is pretty one dimensional.
He's looked fine to me, playing a solid two-way game to go along with his scoring...the only thing is he could try to find his linemates more
Agree. Needs to see the play quicker and show more vision. Not beating others with his thinking. I think this will come but it needs to be more developed. Compete level and confidence has increased throughout the year.
Nice to see Jensen finding his scoring touch down in Utica. Wouldn't mind if they just kept him down there to keep his confidence growing.
Seems like a while ago he was drafted, but it was only 2011. Top 3 picks were RNH (#1C), Landeskog (Avs Captain), Huberdeau (Sophomore slumping). Other than that, looks like a good class of guys who are taking time to hone their skills patiently (Larsson, Strome, Zibanejad, Scheifele, D. Hamilton, Baertschi, Klefbom, Jurco). Sort of does seem like a long time ago these guys were drafted, but they're turning corners.
There's almost always going to better players taken after your pick, you can't worry about it too much. All that matter is if Jensen works out for us. Saying he had a rough start to the AHL would be a massive understatement but he seems to have found his scoring touch down there and his strong play has translated somewhat to the NHL. Really flourishes while playing with quality players, as he tries to do it all himself if he's not playing with good linemates.
