Top 3 for the NYR shootout

We need these shootout points..

Just curious what Ranger fans think..

I'd go with:

Prucha
Hossa
Nylander.

Prucha is dynamic, quick, deceptive and has a nack for scoring.
Hossa has Marian like skills when given the opportunity and a silk smooth stride.
Nylander has the change of pace and sneaky ability.

After that, its anyones guess...

It varies depending on the type of game the guys are having but for the most part

Nylander
Straka

then anyone of Shanny/Prucha/Hossa/Cullen. I would also like to see Avery go on the Shootout.

Shanny, Jagr, Nylander, Straka, Prucha

Any three of them, and then Hossa sixth. Cullen has had a little success when he had the quick stop move but he threw that out vs. the Devils.

Guys, Jagr is not a good shootout option. Nylander, Shanny, and Prucha should always be going ahead of him.

Regardless of Jagr's record in the shootout, I still feel your best player needs to be in there.

My 3:

Jagr - best stick-handler and can score of course
Shanahan - best shooter...he doesn't even need to deek
Prucha - clutch, fearless
(4th option: Straka or Hossa)

I actually do not like Nylander in the shootout because he is not deceptive...he takes forever to make his move and the goalie has time to react! Straka would be my 4th option, he is just solid. Hossa is calm too.

This irks me a bit. Not much but a bit.

Jagr is good in the SO. He might not be the best in the league, or even top 30.

But its like he is afraid. He should defenitly be able to be atleast top 3 on this team.

If he just would skate forward and shoot he would be top 3.

Maybe Lundy have stopped him too many times in practise so that he have lost all his confidence....

Straka, man this guys just don't have the marginals with him. He got a good move, its the best approch, to have two options were the goalie only can take away one of them, and then make a decision just before you shoot. Straka got that and executes pretty well on it. At first it were like he only hit the posts. Lately he have started to miss so much.

1. nylander going 2mph is very effective
2. i wouldnt go w/ shanny because it seems kinda obvious he'll shoot w/o making a move (usually five-hole).. so second, Id say Hossa
3. prucha? i don't know, he seems to have lost that scoring touch so until he regains some of his confidence I'd say Cullen (jk)... you have to go with Jagr.

1. hossa - he's got a lot more skill than i think people give him credit as seen when he embarassed brodeur on the SO a couple weeks ago
2. ortmeyer - looked pretty good in Boston and just cus its ortmeyer
3. nylander - the going slow thing throws goalies off big time

Tough to say...

at this point, I'd probably go with Nylander, Shanny, Hossa, but it all depends on what's going on within the game.

If I remember hearing correctly, Hollweg is the best Ranger performer in shootouts in practice. He has the highest percentage, so I wouldn't be against him shooting. I guess it's just a matter of if he can translate his success in practice to a pressure situation like a game.

The love that Hossa is getting is unbelievable. Wow does this board run hot & cold.

My List:

1. Nylander - the most impressive thing is he still manages to reach up and take his mouthpiece out only milliseconds after the puck crosses the line...
2. Straka - Has the hands a solid move...even in failed attempts, always very close.
3. Shanahan - While being candid about not being as successful in SOs as breakaways, even in missing (like then NJ game), he sees the available holes; also, he clutch and fits the role of a deciding 3rd shooter well
4. Jagr - 2 for 11 isn't a title to brag about, but outside the pressure of the first 3, Jagr has the ability no doubt to be the best. Seriously appears to be a confidence issue as he dismantled goalies in the preseason SO opportunities.
5. Prucha - Tale of two Petes...He is awesome when he roofs it but abysimal when playing the puck near the ice
6. Cullen - If you watched what he did in Carolina SOs, he has speed and a quick move.
7. Hossa - Some people have labeled him as "cool" in SOs...that's not cool, he's just not really dynamic. Review his 2 SO goals (this year) and attempts from last. Rounds out the last of the "talent" Ranger shooters, but barely makes the list...not a top 3 by ANY stretch.

The whole Hollweg bit has never really been backed up much beyond that one story line in the Washington shootout. While I obviously put him ahead of Ortmeyer or Ward, there has been very little to date to ever prove this attribute (probably had a really good morning skate that day)...

I love how people are so eager to psychoanalyze Jagr, as if any of you have ever even had a conversation with the guy.

Is a lack of confidence the reason that Sidney Crosby isn't any good in the SO too?

I think Jagr would be more successful in the shootout if he took a shot instead of trying to deke and always losing the puck.

Here we go another on the Hossa bandwago all the sudden, he has 2 good games and now he shuld be second in the shoot out.

TRhe three should be Shanny,Prucha & Nylander.
