10th best forward this year? Lol. I guess Vinny's the new whipping boy.

I don't think our team would be any better or worse this season with Gagne. He is my favorite Flyer of all time, and I would have loved to have him on our team this year or next, but I don't think he'd make a difference in the standings over a guy like Raffl.

I find it amazing that people aren't willing to spend 1.5MM on Gagne when, if added to the team, would easily score more goals than Hartnell does playing with Giroux. And Hartnell makes a stupid amount of money to basically get spoon fed on the first line or suck on any other line. Also, love the crystal balls people have in "knowing" he's going to be on LTIR. He wanted to play here, and was willing to take a pay cut. He wasn't likely demanding a top 6 role. He can kill penalties (why is Rinaldo killing penalties again?). He would probably make a better assistant captain then Hartnell. The benefits outweigh the costs here.

Gagne played with Giroux last year towards the end & was god awful, he was flubbing chances left & right that were set up on a platter by Giroux & Voracek so no he wouldn't score more goals than Hartnell playing with them two because he's not an NHL caliber player anymore

As for those questioning his ability to stay healthy it isn't so far fetched when one would look at his medical history.

Guys who consistently score over 20+ goals are worth more than $2M.

Well, you shouldn't have let them borrow them from you in the first place then!

In 2005-06 Hartnell had 48 points in 81 games; .593 PPG.

This season he has 37 points in 55 games; .673 PPG.

Hartnell's contract is two years too long, but his AAV is right on.

Yup. And it's not just about the points, he's got leadership qualities, hits, fights if need be and will go the dirty areas. Quality power forwards get paid.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I'd rather have Gagne playing then Zac or Rosehill most nights. Heck even over Downie recently. Though that's really not saying much. It would honestly be my number one option to bring up a Phantom for that spot, you know someone that can actually play hockey. If not though I would take Gagne, that's my whole point I think. And before people start with the he's not a 4th liner bs, since when does the team need strictly gritty 4th line. The good teams have a 4th line that can actually contribute offensively sometimes or at the very least not be a detriment. Currently the Flyers don't have that. A line of Gagne/McGinn-Raffl-Hall would help matters IMO.

Scott Hartnell is more often than not a common factor on all the lines that click for the Flyers year after year.

Hartnell-Carter-Lupul

Hartnell-Briere-Leino

Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr

Some would have you believe though that he's been carried on every one of those lines. I guess, he's been carried his whole career then too cause Hartnell produces.

Yep. I've grown weary of defending Hartnell over the years.

Gagne

Bruins fan coming in peace. I'm sure there is nothing but good vibes here, but how do you guys feel about Gagne's return? He just played great in his 1st game, up and down the lineup, pp and pk. So pumped we got this guy for 600k...

Not gloating, but do you guys wish he was back with the Flyers instead?

I thought Gagne played fairly well his last season here. However, around here, I'm in the minority with that opinion. Wish him the best.

Nope.

Unless he's suddenly become a top pairing defensemen, then yes.

Nah.

He's still an NHL calibre player, and he looks the part - big, fast, smart.

But the offense is gone, the explosiveness is gone, the grit is mostly gone.

He's a low-upside third liner at best these days.

You could do worse for $600k though, sure.

He's definitely still an NHL player. We don't have the room for him though he just wouldn't fit this lineup not with lecavalier here anyway.

One of my favorite players ever. I hope he does well and revitilizes his career in Boston. Hope he gets another cup too.

I definitely would want him back, though as mentioned, we couldn't fit him on the roster now. Still, a great guy and my first favorite NHL player ever. I was really happy for him when he won the cup with LA and hope he does well, even if he's playing for a rival now.

Gagne is awesome, he will always be remembered as a Flyer to me and I certainly wish him all the best in Boston. However I'm not jealous he's with the Bruins, as others have said we just don't have space for him in our roster.

Would I switch him for Vinny? **** yes.

Wish him well. If he would have signed that cheaply, or even a million, he could have been a Flyer last year.

No. We got Bellemare for the same price.

And Gagne played 3 seconds on the PP.

Love gagne but would not want him on this team. He was pretty underwhelming in his last stint. He's a nhl player, but he's no longer top 6 worthy and I still have doubts he can last an entire season. There were also times he seemed invisible when he was with us. Glad he had a good game though, I'd wait a little bit more before declaring him back.
