Whatever.

Trust me, I groaned when I heard the news. As much as I didn't like him (just from media, unlike this guy I make no assertions that I have inside information), I recognized that we sorely needed a player like him on this team, and the last few games has proven that point quite nicely. I'm not ready to bow down and worship him as the answer to all the Rangers' problems, but I've definitely come around from my initial reaction to the trade.
I didn't like it when I heard it, either. I said he was an a hole. But guess what??? He's OUR a hole now and doing it FOR us. So, I can live with it.

I find it totally classless for a reporter to bash a guy after he leaves town. Players aren't doing it, why is Kato's twin brother opening things now? Did he ever express these things when Avery was a King?

He's was only 6 at the time, the celebrations at that age are half the fun. Im sure he will tone it down before he plays squirt travel. He scored in practice scrimage tonite and went for the stick pony ride. Sean is a passionate hard worker, I would not mind my kid modeling those traits. Jack Johnson is his other hockey role model thanks to youtube.

I didn't know Shanny sanctioned the trade. That alone makes me feel alot better about it.

I remember having that same sour feeling when Ulf Samuelsson was traded here- I just hated the h*ll out of the guy, but of course loved him as a Ranger.

Well, Elisha Cuthbert obviously thinks highly of him, and that has got to count for something.

Here's hoping that he is not nearly as "Hollywood" as Barnaby was, and brings us that Kasparaitis element of incendiary unpredictability. Players on other teams are not going to be putting their heads down at center ice now, and hopefully think twice about running Prucha to get their sorry a$$e$ on an ESPN highlight reel.

That guy must be the LA equivalent of Larry Brooks. I'd say Phil Mushnick instead, but I don't think PM knows a lick about hockey.

This guy's column sounds emotional instead of rational. He calls Cliche the "key to the deal," and while I agree with that from a Kings perspective, I'm still not sold on him being a difference maker at the NHL level.

Avery isn't here to solve the 2nd line center issues, and I think if the Rangers go on a run here and win say 4 of their next 5 or whatever, then another deal might go down. But what Avery does solve is another team's one dimensional approach defensively to the Rangers, ie Stop Jagr, you stop the Rangers. And it's not necessarily because of what Avery brings to the table offensively, but more because he irritates other teams to the point where they're more worried about him than Straka, Nylander, or Jagr. He's also brought a valuable amount of energy to the club and everybody seems to feed off it.

Hard to know how accurate the column is but if he makes the wrong comments here you can be sure he will be run out of town.

That article is a bit too personal for my liking. I've never read so many shots at a guy's character in one article. Guess that's how they do it out West.

It does seem to lack "journalistic credibility". Too personal and no quotes, no solid references, just opinions.

By the way, who's that porn actor in your avatar?

That's a good one.

Get a load of the sour puss on that guy. Pretty contrived. He does not look like a guy that has much fun. He comes off sounding more the ahole than what he claims Avery to be.

Nice avatar.

Get used to it. We rarely saw anything good written about Avery out here even though he gave plenty of reasons to write positive articles this season. Last season, he got into some trouble, but he was the only guy out there playing his heart out.

Just like we see with politics, most newspaper opinion writers are FOS.

It hard to say what to think of Avery definetly he's been great so far but this
from the Kings board worries me

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=345788

"Avery is one virus that will likely spread slowly. One little implosion opens the door for an explosion and next thing you know, it's all over everybody and there is no cleaning that **** up." -Zad

While I'm not going to base my opinion of him on one posters belief, it is concerning that half of the Kings fans seem to think he's really good, and half think he's a locker room cancer. We'll have to see. I would think Shanny would't allow him to get out of line here, but who knows.

i admit i bashed avery pretty hard after the deal....as a kings fan who's watched his progression i can say that it was an up and down ride with avery. i love his heart and at times he was the best player on the kings effort wise. he's got great speed and always showed flashes of offensive upside. he fell out of favor with me because crawford was giving him to much premiun ice time that he didn't really do alot with. his numbers were decieveing in LA, he had more opportunities that he missed or plays that he flubbed then those that he put away..just my assesment as a kings fan. he also looked horrible on our powerplay and often made terrible decisions.(guess that can be said of alot of players) conroy had a great year with demitra under andy murray..alot of his time was reduced under crawford in favor of avery(and armstrong who's having a solid year)...that didn't sit well with me. conroy was never given the opportunity to get out of his funk or play with the linemates avery got to. (maybe its just an excuss..i dont know)

i think its good that avery is shinning right now for the rangers and as of now i think you got the better of the deal..but time will tell. i find it funny that now avery is out of the west that the media is so shocked at his skill. i'm not ready to call him an all-star just yet but i'm glad for him that a change of scenery did him some good. He does seem more like a NY kind of guy.

Dennis absolutely hated Avery as he was always an ass to every reporter in LA. It's not like he didn't see it Avery was an ass to everyone. Including telling Bob Miller to "F Off" after a post game interview. Dennis is hardly a Kings fan and bashes them night after night. Also he is from New York so that may reason why he seems so pissed.

Lombardi was trying to get rid of Avery for three months and he finally got a chance to do it. Avery was not like by one player in LA and it started to show. Everyone was tired of him and that is why Lombardi wanted him gone. He is not the guy that Lombardi wants in his locker room.

Avery was starting to get on the last nerves of the Kings fans and I myself was happy he was traded.

You are over-compensating here. Avery had a lot of enemies within the locker room, especially within the veterans.

The provable negatives:

- Constant whining to the ref's.
- Consistently diving.
- Was disliked by the previous coaching regime for publicly stating that his teammates weren't tough enough (after the PHX-Sillinger incident). He was suspended by the team for a few games for not keeping that stuff inside the locker room.
- Stupid racist comments, not counting the unsubstantiated Laraque issue (which I honestly believe was "'roid monkey" and not a direct racial insult, though it was equally stupid to say).
- The stupid practice argument with Ducks' announcer Brian Hayward.
- Refusing to do a drill in practice which lead to a near-altercation with then assistant coach Mark Hardy and subsequent season ending team suspension.
- Horrible decision making (for the most part). Avery coud kill the team with an ill-advised pass at a critical juncture.

For the most part, Avery has a serious issue with wanting to be "the man". He can play a team game very well for short periods of time, and then will suddenly take it upon himself to try and take over a game all by himself, be it by carrying the puck for too long or trying to "motivate" his teammates by starting crazy ****. His teammates just got tired of always trying to stand up for him. He is a polarizing influence - either you like him or you hate him, and there isn't much room in between.

The good news is that some other fans are getting to see that Avery is a talented player. We've been putting up with anti-Avery BS from other fans for a couple of years now, and it has really obscured people from seeing just how effective he can be on-ice. Fantastic skating, decent offensive instincts (but poor finishing skills), and an abrasive presence on the ice.

This article may just be an overly sensational piece, but it isn't all that far from the objective truth (I can't and won't even try to validate the Yzerman stuff). As much fun as it was to watch the Avery show for three seasons, the LA Kings really are better off without him.
