If Rangers make the playoffs...

...which team out of those that are currently in would be out?

My bet is Montreal. Yours?

im guessing Montreal as well, but dont be shocked if Tampa Bay or Carolina misses the playoffs if the Rangers or another team from the bottom passes them.

Montreal, Carolina, Atlanta with Tampa Bay overtaking Atlanta.

This is so close to call..

my initial reaction was Montreal, but they're still in a spot despite playing some bad hockey (5 straight losses, 7 wins in last 23) and the worst may end soon for them. I'm going to guess Tampa - thinking that Holmqvist doesn't hold-up down the stretch.

It's amazing how the attitudes towards the Rangers have changed after two good games. Before the two game winning streak,it was Tom Renney blows, the Rangers suck and sell off every asset. Now we are talking about playoffs and which teams are going to fall out of the race.I can't wait for the Keith Tkachuk and Bill Guerin trade proposal threads to the Rangers.Lets trade a 1st round pick or good young players for one of those rentals because the Rangers are only one player away from having a deep playoff run

I was only saying one of the above--Renney blows...I thought and still think that it would be foolish to quit on the season and be a seller, because this team can be a player in the POs if Renney keeps his head and line-up hat out of his ass...The thing about the last 2-3 games is that it was basically the first time all year we showed any true chemistry and that's what made me feel better...Not to say the Canes won't rip us a new one tonight..But, we'll see..

I disagree. Furthermore, I'm not sure if we make it. But in order to get in, someone has to get out. By weighting who would it be one could actually assess NYR chances better.
With Huet injury Montreal doesn't look good at all even if Samsonov wakes up. Holmqvist I agree can let Tampa down. Raycroft seems to help Toronto, etc. Lundqvist, on the other hand, (I keep my fingers crossed) looks strong.

The topic is if the Rangers make the playoffs who do they knock out that's currently in.

So it's really not an issue of changing attitudes. You can think that the Rangers are not going to make it and still answer the question.

He said "If" the Rangers make the playoffs...

If the Rangers make the playoffs, I think the Hurricanes are going to be the odd-team out. Still, at the same time, they're not far behind the Thrashers for their division right now.

Montreal is having a lot of problems right now, but I think they'll rebound.

Save the voice of reason BS for some other time. The Rangers are still in it.

How do good teams justify selling off their first round pick for a quality player rental? (Some even multiple times, consistently) Only in the world of HF would a first round pick mean more than a solid deadline addition.

If we win two games 3/2 and 3/5 we would seriously cut their chances and improve ours.

The vulnerable team this week is Montreal.Last week it was Carolina before they won 3 out of their last 4 games

Do you have a problem with me?Voice of reason BS?

So you would have no problem with the Rangers trading away their first round pick for a quality player rental?

To be perfectly honest, I want the Isles to make it along with us. As much as we hate them, they're our rival, and it's good for both rivals to BE good. Think of how insane the metro area would be if the Rangers and Isles met in the playoffs, with the Devils there too? I think it's good for New York (and New Jesey and CT) in general if all 3 teams make it.

I happen to agree. For those who can remember back to the 1996-97 through 2003-044 seasons you will probably see a lot of similarities between this team and those. In each of those years the Rangers were in the mix, but generally looking up. On each occasion they fell short...it's just hard to do with so many teams in play and so many intra-conference games.

On the positive side, the Rangers actually do in fact control their own destiny as of this morning. If you take a look at the Maximum Points the Rangers can get (111) and the Maximum Wins (53) they actually have the advantage over:

Montreal, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia and Florida on points
Carolina on wins

That's six teams right there...

They also are only one point behind Toronto and the Islanders and have to play each of those teams (Leafs - 1, Isles 4) in the remainder of the season, giving them potential tie-breakers.

They're also only 2 points behind Atlanta in terms of the Maximum amount of points, and are capable of registering one more win.
