Tavares showed the same in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 WCs (Germany, Slovakia and Swe/Fin) as well, 25 points in 22 games and +12.

Perry maybe some concern for me... he is worse than Getzlaf and Tavares at skating, and in 2012 I remember him not looking as dangerous, though looking at it he got 7 points in 8 and was +7! And in 2010 had 6 in 7.
Yeah...

It's just that Canada's team has a chance to be one of the greats of all time - we are just loaded up front. However, if we choose the wrong 14, on the big ice, they can look very slow and lost.

Oh well, I have to assume Mr. Yzerman knows what he's doing.

I don't know that I would worry that much about lack of speed. Remember, it's about the same length (Olympic size actually a few feet shorter), but wider. It's more about positioning than speed imo.

Over the years, I have seen too many GREAT Canadian players looking lost / out of position at the World Championships not to be concerned.

If he suits Subban up, he doesn't know what the F he is doing... 7th/8th is fine, but for F sakes not in the starting 6.

Don't know why you think Subban shouldn't be on team Canada. Yes, the guy is a huge punk on the ice, but he can skate, shoot, hit and play well defensively

He'll be great on the big ice surface

I think he's a *****, but he's without a doubt, one of the best Canadian defenseman out there

It would be a hilarious and egregious error on Canada's part if they pass on Subban. He isn't Mike Green

They won't pass on him. It's only some "fans" that don't want him on the team

yeah there is no way Canada passes on Subban. I know some fans dont like his on ice shenanigans at times but the guy is a elite defenseman. I would take him on this team. no questions asked. there isnt one defenseman I would take on the Flyers over him.

Your wrong there bud, here's the stats on ice:
NHL: 200 feet long and 85 feet wide, with goal lines 11 feet from the end boards.

Olympic/European: 210 feet long and 98 feet wide. Goal lines are 13 feet from the end boards.
Speed is what you need on Olympic surface, a lot more room to maneuver.

That's interesting, I never knew it was only 10 feet longer...

I imagine a player with good turning/acceleration/what have you would beat out a player with just a good top speed then, especially considering that out of 10 of those extra feet, 6 of them are behind the net.

I don't watch a lot of international hockey so I'm just going on the assumption that the north/south game is pretty much the same as the NHL, but there's more room for good possession players to do their thing, east/west. Am I far off?

The width of the ice and behind the net creates a lot more room for skilled players. You are not that far off.

PS Stupid not having Giroux on the Canadian Olympic team- it seems even Mike Richards was pulling for him, according to the LA Times.

Giroux is like a pretty sick week from being 2nd or 3rd in the NHL. Crosby is way out, as usual, but 2nd is 69 pts.
