Bourque not out for the second - looks like he's injured.

Because I was watching on AHL Live I got the conversation between the ice-side guy and Hawk while they were off air. It went something like this:

Hawk: "I got your text. That is not good news."
Ice-side guy: "No it is not."
Hawk: "We'll talk about it here in a second and we'll keep it unspecific."

Sounds pretty bad - another concussion?

Now Hensick apparently injured as well...

EDIT: apparently back on the bench now.

Pack win their fourth in a row, 4-2. Asham with the empty-netter to seal it off a very good play by Fast to secure the puck, draw a crowd of Pirates and chip it to him in the clear.

Tough game - the ice was not very good.

3 stars:
Grumet-Morris
McIlrath
Hensick

HM:
Fast
Allen

I have to say, neither Gormley nor Rundblad have impressed me much in the two games vs. the Pirates that I've seen.

I like Grumet-Morris. He should be brought back. He was amazing tonight.

Fast and Allen both had very good games. I love how they're getting a ton of minutes. Good experience for both as I believe they both have good futures with the Rangers.

I like Tommy Hughes. He may not ever become an NHLer but he plays a nice simple efficient game.

Is it really an update to say that Fast and Allen had good games? Saying Allen played well in the AHL is exactly like saying McDonagh played well in the NHL. They play well every game.

Fair enough. I'd like to see both these kids get another shot, but that may not happen until next season.

Agree. Allen might be (probably is) the most consistent player in Hartford.

That's not to say he's the best player, but his game to game performances are always solid

I haven't seen any of the Hartford games--sometimes the highlights but one thing I wonder about with Fast is he doesn't put up a lot of shots. 50 shots in 32 games. I get the idea he doesn't shoot for the sake of shooting--that when he takes shots they tend to be more high quality as about 20% of them have wound up in the back of the net. Ideally a good forward in any league is going to get at least somewhere between 2 and 3 shots on goal a game. Fast is about at one and a half.

I'm perhaps his biggest fan, but I agree that this is an area where he can definitely improve. IMO, Fast is figuring it out in the same way that MZA has over the last couple of years. Firstly, he does need to add just a bit more strength so that he can fend off defenders for that extra half second that will allow him to get off more shots while covered, but you're right - the bigger factor is that he is definitely more wired to pass than to shoot (playing with JTM as his center for most of the year may have contributes to this tendency).

He also needs to play with more skilled players. Fast plays a speed, puck possession, passing game - when he's got Darrol Powe as his opposite wing who can't do much more than dump it in the corner and grind, not only is it failing to emphasize his strengths, it's actually working to neutralize them.

It's an issue where I think you'll continue to see progress. He's currently scoring at about a 0.67ppg pace. When the lineup was more balanced, he was at a PPG. If he's back with the Pack next year I'm fairly confident that'll increase to a PPG rate for the full year - and perhaps better if there's real talent around him.

Crap. Didn't realize that the Pack had a 4pm game! Yikes, it's the inverse of last night's game - Pack down 3-1 after 1.

Yeah... Grumet-Morris is the keeper of the two (no pun intended). Good to see Bourque playing (and with a goal) BTW.

lol, i missed it too, but thanks to hockeystreams, i watched from the beginning of the game and LeNeveu give up a pair of weak one / back breakers.

Grumet-Morris should be the NYR 3rd goalie and should be given a two-way contract next year, that's how good he's been.

Ugh. Another weak one by LeNevue - completely effed up his angle on that.
