His confidence is completely shot. He'll never be a starter again (not that he was a great one to begin with), but his head isn't in the place where he can be relied upon to be a #1.

If Buffalo takes him, it is so one of their potential Halak markets doesn't dry up.

Dubnyk was atrocious in his very little time here in Nashville. I think he let in 5 goals both games, iirc. Seems like he was very slow in side to side movement as well.

Remember when Reimer <<< Dubnyk?

Anyways, I can see Dubnyk claimed by somebody conpletely desparate for goaltending. I could see Buffalo bite to further the tank.

He's a pretty good stickhandler, skates alright for his size and is decent in his own zone. His point totals were actually pretty good last year considering his role and ice time but this year not so much, probably because Carlyle never plays his 4th line. He's definitely a better player than Orr though.

He has been injured a lot and inconsistent when in the lineup. He looked great on one shift, and like a junior player the next.

LOL find a post where anyone even said Dubnyk is close to Price, please. All sensible Oiler fans thought at best he was a #1 goalie who ranked from 20-30 in the league no better.

Dubnyk to Islanders would be my guess.

Plus, you can do this endlessly.

Remember when folks thought Raycroft >>>>>> Rask, Noronen >>>> Miller, Halak >>>> Price?

Things change, as do opinions. Just because at one point someone maybe thought Dubnyk was a better goalie than X, doesn't mean those same people didn't see more of them and go "Hmm, I was wrong, he's not".

There were Oilers fans saying they wouldn't trade Dubnyk for Price one for one as recent as this last offseason.

That would be the extreme minority. Even our gm publicly said he wanted someone better

Well I mean... He can play hockey, kinda... But compared to other players in the NHL, no. This is a guy who you'll regret playing anything more than 4 minutes a night. Good fighter, but I'm afraid he's apart of a dying breed in the NHL.

Plugs who can fight.

The only real possibility I see is

a) Kids who know nothing and thought Dubnyk was god
b) Dubnyks parents

Vis a vis today's waived players (Dubnyk, McLaren, and Kobasew), the only team that I could see claiming any of them is Buffalo. However, Buffalo would need to trade Halak first for Dubnyk to be there. McLaren is essentially useless with Colton Orr also on the roster, and Kobasew would simply be a warm body for Buffalo so that prospects don't go to a toxic environment.

This is the logical answer.

I'll readily admit I was one of the ones pumping his tires last year, and thought he was finally ready to be a #1. Dude had a .920 save percentage last year on the Oilers; that's pretty good.

He simply fell of a cliff. Happens sometimes, more often to goalies it seems. Which is why I laugh at the ridiculous proposals I see for goalie prospects who have never done anything close to putting up a .920 in the NHL.

EDIT: And I should add that while I was a supporter of Dubnyk, I never said anything nearly as foolish as not trading him for Price.

Mclaren is a solid 4th liner who can stick up for his teammates and actually play to a certain extent

Me too. Welcome to the brotherhood of truth.

I think he has a shot at being a back up, but with the goaltending market this summer, I would not be shocked to see him go to Europe either. JDD clone and less athletic.

doesnt take much for the wheels to fall off for some ..
Dubnyk was awesome last season..
Some might always say that Scrivens is better than starter X right now.. but he could wet the bed next year.

Dont jinx Varlamov.

There was that thread where most Oilers fans declined Price and Galchenyuk for RNH and Dubnyk because the gap between RNH was far larger than the gap between Price and Dubnyk.
