That's why resigning, not trading, Markov and Souray should be Gainey's no1 priority...anyway, we won't get a top notch ready (aka Johnson) d-man who could replace one of them in a trade involving them...
With Souray and Markov sign the future is just fine.
Souray is by far the BEST Hab this year and the best leader on the team. He expressed interest in staying in Montreal and contrary to popular belief he doesn't spend that much time out west with his daughter i.e he spent all last summer in Montreal during the offseason. So if Montreal gives him market value why wouldn't he stay, oh maybe cuz of all the Habs fans who keep demanding he gets traded.
I think this trade could make sense...The Habs get a d-man signed for next year...They get rid of Sammy and they get a 2nd pick...I really think Bell could do bettre by playing on top line...He'e the big guy we need up front...The Sharks get the guy they need on their pp and Sammy could regain his form by playing with big Joe...
Not a Souray #2...
"Must continue to make adjustments to the speed of the pro game, and avoid crucial mistakes in the defensive zone." TSN
And an other underachiever...
"A lack of consistent play are at the root of Bell's problems." TSN
Wow, I've never seen more bs in one post ever. Lets see...rises to occasion in contract years, and injury prone.
2005-2006 Canadiens 75 12 27 39 -11 116 7 1 0 0 202 5.9
2003-2004 Canadiens 63 15 20 35 4 104 6 1 3 0 186 8.1
Since the lockout Sheldon has been one of the top scoring defenceman in the league. Has over 100 penalty minutes per year and has an absolute cannon from the point. As far as the defence goes he is adequate, far from horrible. Trade him if that's what Gainey wants but this other bs you mention is garbage.
No, this post is garbage except for that part of it proves my point. His best years as a Hab have been contract years (this year, and 2003-2004). He SUCKED last season....he was the barrel in "hoop around a barrel".:
Souray cherry picks his points on the PP, he is horrid at moving the puck and has almost ZERO defensive awareness....he's almost ALWAYS getting his pocket picked in our zone.
All of a sudden come contract year, he's mister big shot? I don't buy it, been watching him since we first aquired him and I've never been impressed. He's good at 2 things: Slapping it from the point on the PP and fighting. Considering he rarely fights, I consider him a 1-trick pony and a major liability.
Two topics started, two ideas that have been rehashed 100 times already. Great way to start your membership on HF!
And what an example you're setting for a new poster on these boards with such a lame and harshly sarcastic post. Damn him for not knowing topics of discussion previous to his joining.
Trading our leading scorer and our pp quarterback wouldn't be a so good idea if we're looking to make playoffs. Trading him for a young defenceman like Carle or someone like Camalleri wouldn't be so bad since we can still try to sign him in offseason. He has a really high value and if Gainey feels this team needs a major shakeup or rebuilding he could surprise people.
I agree his defense aint his strong point...but he is a true player and a true HAB.This team lacks and has lacked anyone who stands up for or represents what this team used to be and should be. THE MONTREAL CANADIENS!
I agree, Souray seems to be the true leader of this team.
It may take about $5M to sign Souray though. You have to admit, he's worth about $3.5M-$4M given his production (average ddefense though). So factor in UFA price inflation and you're looking at about $5M. It's pricey but he scores clutch goals, runs the PP, is a leader is the dressing room and sticks up for his teammates like no other.
He's also exciting to watch... when the puck gets to him at the blueline during a PP, you know there's a sweet scoring chance coming up.
Nothing against Koivu, but I think it's time to pass the torch.
IMO Souray has the most character out of anyone on our team. He is always the first player to stand up for his teammates and the guy has been clutch for us. If we can get him for 4.5-5mill a year over 3-4 years I say take it.

Agreed. And he never hides from the journalists as well. Not the best defensively as we all know, but if you had the choice, who would you take; McCabe or Souray?
Last game, when Souray shooted the puck over the glass to make a 5-3, Devils putted 2 goals due to his brain cramp... It would be better to score on his own net... Only one goal...

Poor Souray...
And who would play on PP? Bouillon? Dandeneault? Komisarek?
Let's be realistic here. The guy brings something that these guys can't.
Souray on the point is our man on PP; but when Kovy's not there, he's our ONLY option...which makes it easy for the other teams to adjust.
