2015 3rd round pick

Kevin Hayes

Hayes is unsigned, Hawks very well may lose the former 1st rounder for nothing after the season. B's get a local boy having a very good college season, chances are he would sign with them.

No room for him anyway. We have too many prospects.

Why trade a 1st round pick for a 3rd round pick before he has even laced up his skates for the Hawks organization? Especially when he is having a monster senior year? Makes no sense unless he has stated he will not sign wth the Hawks which I'm pretty sure is opposite what he has stated.

As for no room for him? He could be the best or a bust - but he's a 1st rounder - you have to give him a chance. Sheesh!

Not when all you're getting is a third in return...especially before seeing what his real potential is after having a great season in the NCAA. Ill pass just like everyone else in this thread...

Another brutal trade proposal from CSOI. I think that Hayes, who is a first round pick, has shown enough this year to merit reasonable consideration that he will be an NHLer some time over the next 1-2 years, with some continued measure of doubt until he plays against the pros when his collegiate season is completed.

From Hockey Reference, we are able to see the relative value of any draft spot (round) over the years, as opposed to players who have been picked and seem to have a real chance to play in the NHL. Third round picks between 2006 and 2011 who have played over 50 NHL games to date, regardless of current status, number 27 out of 150 draft picks. So, there is a slightly better than one in five chance that the Hawks would be able to acquire a passable player, and much less than that if 100 games is used as a cutoff.

It is unreasonable to believe that the Hawks will turn a first round pick from 2010 into a third round pick, with far less chance for NHL success, just when said prospect is reaching the point where he may become an NHL contributor in the not-too-distant future.

To what context are your referring? The vague notion right now that Hayes won't sign with the Hawks? All posters here agree that it's a bad proposal.

As for stupidity, I'll put my intelligence level and perspective up against yours any day of the week, son.

The value is off, and there is no reason to make a deal now.
