Add leadership, toughness, and underrated passing ability.
Subtract "plyon status"....guys just blowing past him and his defensive lapses............including misreads, bad passes along the boards and penalties....
If you had the choice, would you rather see Markov and Kovalev be dealt or Souray?
Souray is heart and soul of dressing room, the latter two seem to be the plague!
-Murph
Although I would like to keep Souray from a personality standpoint, he is just not as good as Markov. Sorry, but that's just reality. I have never heard about Markov being a plague, unless you know something I dont.
maybe he wasn't planning on resigning anyhow maybe he's gonna resign with us in the off season either way, if in fact this rumour is true i wish him the best of luck, and thank him for his years of service.

Let me rephrase as to Kovalev being the distraction, whatever you may call it.
However, if the Habs unloaded Kovalev, would they have enough to re-sign Markov and Souray?
Hearing everywhere though that maybe Souray has indicated he's signing elsewhere so maybe he's gone?
Team 990 also reporting McGuire is about to announce a trade. Melnick's been sarcastically saying this the whole show though.
Yep. But those were dumb moves. This is young free agency/salary cap NHL. Better to trade him than lose him via free agency. I hate free agency! 35 should be free agency age.

but then we wouldn't get crosby/ovechkin in 5 years!!!
Sorry, but I really hope the Habs trade Souray and get a nice package for him. He's been the best Hab this year, and in 03-04 too he was great, but he is just worth so much to other teams as a rental. You add that shot to a contender and they instantly become super contenders, whereas the Habs will struggle to make the playoffs, IMO. And when it comes choice between Souray or Markov, I choose Markov.
Other than Souray, I'd keep most of the rest of the UFAs, although it is tempting to dump more players...
I don't think Souray will ever produce what he does in Montreal, only because he fits so well into the system that's used in Montreal. Now if we're going to change the system, then sure trade him, but the guy is so charismatic that I'd hate to see him leave.
Markov's great, but he doesn't do anything for me off the ice.

Im kinda scare what contract will Gainey offer Souray. Gainey is not the best guy to make contract.
Remember the time Souray can't hit the net and was shooting everywhere but on the net?? What if next year he can not score on the powerplay anymore because he always miss the net or the opposite team always puts a guy to block his shots? Then, will he really worth 6 millions a year if he cant score 20 goals and we cant not trade him because of his contract? We have seen that a lot.
How would trading Souray realistically help anything? Trading your top point producer, the key to the power play (especially relevant since we can't score 5 on 5) and arguably a team leader will just sink the dressing room.
Damn I should have called TEAM990 to ask McGuire that.
