You've gotta think Mike Gillis is on his way out. What a gongshow.

Though I don't know if this includes the 15% retained or if that even matters.

I believe if Luongo retires before his contract is up, Vancouver is charged $8,520,373 spread evenly over the remaining years left on the contract. So the less years remaining, the higher the charge per season would be.

Depends on when. Before or after all the losing this season?

If before, then you're right.

not many expected more in return than this. Markstrom still has potential.

Not really, I wouldn't have minded the deal. Mind you, I didn't think that Markstrom had been playing as awful as he's been. But who knows, having a change of scenery and playing behind a better blueline might give him a bit more confidence and a goalie coach to help him get back into the swing of things.

A loud and vocal minority perhaps. go to our board and a lot of us love it. I We were ready to ship him out for a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Why not trade him to a contender? Is Luongo cool with not having won a cup during this career?

Last year, people were claiming that Vancouver would have been happy with TO's two seconds. Now they're saying that Gillis didn't get enough...

Next up, they'll trade Kesler and Edler and then it's McDavid/Eichel here we come!
If they're giving up on the next few years they should have dumped the Sedins not gone with a goalie without a single playoff game. The Sedins decline is possibly really bad over the span of next few seasons they're losing speed

Ya and Hamhuis and Bieksa likely won't be moved.

Nucks can draft NHLers fine but aren't good at drafting IMPACT players.

Granted they also have this horrible tendency to get really high picks in the worst draft years.

This trade should have happened at last year's draft, but oh well.

Luongo wanted to go to Florida, by all accounts.

LOL, If this was proposed in the offseason, they would call em a idiot. But now I find it quite ironic Tim Thomas and Roberto Luongo are now on the same team.

I remember when there was a Canuck fan who was adament that Luongo would return Versteeg, Bjugstad, and Markstrom for Luongo.

1/3 ain't bad though

Yikes. Should've traded him long ago and stuck with Schneider.

Are there Canucks fans actually unhappy with this? Luongo's best days are behind him and he's on a terrible contract.

Markstrom will do much better with better coaching and a vastly better defense.

Great deal for Vancouver.

Happy for Luongo the man deserved better. I was in his corner firmly during the entire Luongo/Schnieder debacle, but as soon as Eddie Lack got the start on Sunday, I knew that we could not disrespect this man like this yet again and it was time for him to go. All things considered I'm quite happy with the return, and ready for the Eddie Lack era to begin. Thank you so much Luongo, you did amazing things for this team and city, and are undoubtedly the best goaltender we have had in franchise history. I wish you the best of luck.

Hope this brings Canuck fans down a notch who overrate all their players worth around the league. If this was a proposal the OP probably would've been scoffed to death.
