Eddie Lack has a .954 SV% and a GAA of just over 1 in his past 5 games.... he's lost 4 of those 5. Goaltending is not the Canucks problem. It's scoring.

EDIT: The game he won? 1-0 shutout of the Blues

We'll be fine. Lack is on track to become a starter and Markstrom should get there a few years later.

Let's focus on scoring.

Fair enough, but your guys' claims aren't two years from now. It's claiming he's an elite top 10 goalie right now. If you contact me in two years I'll totally re-make a new list with 30 new goalies and I will consider Lack if he's proven something more than excellent stats throughout 26 games. Also, that list was completed in probably 2 minutes

Wow. Didn't know his support was that bad.

Oh, he's not a top 10 goalie right now, he's got the tools to put it together. I wouldn't doubt (if he continues the form he's in right now) in a couple years time he'll be up there. But I'll agree that right now he's not a top 10 goalie.

Canucks are starting their rebuild... they'll move Kesler for young pieces.

they don't need a goalie to carry them to the playoffs... couple young guys that will improve and be part of the rebuild.

Markstrom is NHL ready.. maybe not to be a starter but in a situation with Lack he's perfectly fine.

A whole 26 NHL games and a goalie is appointed to elite status?

You're quoting a Flames fan that is trolling this thread to get reactions. No one is actually claiming Lack is a top 10 goalie. Perhaps there's an argument that his numbers in the last 6 games are in that echelon, but no one is dumb enough to actually think he's there.

Lack is what he is, he's performed very well in the NHL games he's played and the Canucks are clearly prepared to see if he can handle the workload.

But I'm with you when people are already calling him elite and top 10. 26 games is a ridiculously small sample size, Craig Anderson put up .941 in that amount of games but it doesn't mean he's a Vezina material goalie.

Both of these are exactly where I'm coming from. Hopefully he reminds me of an older Bernier after getting his chances. 26 games is like judging Hutton, Talbot or Jones as elite goalies off of their 28 game, 17 game and 18 game performances. Honestly I say battle it out with Markstrom and Lack, they're both mid 20s and both have the potential (as you guys say) to become #1 goalies. Kind of like a Reimer/Bernier battle, find out who is more reliable. ( but hey, I think we allllll clearly know who is more reliable right??? )

Lack is already better than some goalies in the league IMO and will only grow, perfectly comfortable with him.

Completely agree, thought they would at least let him get comfortable for the rest of the year and trade Luongo in offseason, but after Torts started him at Heritage Classic think it brought the trade up a few months.

Can't complain I remember watching Markstrom a few years ago and thinking the kid had a lot of talent. Nothing like a little healthy competition, especially when Markstrom has had a full healthy offseason (something that he's rarely had from what I can remember).

From all accounts from Matthias he believes Markstrom's numbers are skewed from all the firesales at trade deadlines that lead to Markstroms starts with terrible line-ups.

From what I've seen Lack is going to be an excellent goalie. He's already looked very good in the games I've seen. That Wild(Kuemper) vs. Vancouver(Lack) was a goalie showcase. If Vancouver does not make the post season, it likely won't be because of goaltending.

Think the canucks shouldve also got thomas back in that deal if they intended to try and make playoffs this year. Lack isnt ready for this kind of pressure. Couldve left markstrom in ahl to develop for next year.

With the Canucks down 4-0 to the Stars, The Canucks need a starting Goaltender pretty bad.

5-0 now. 5 goals on 17 shots.

But the one thing constant is they are not scoring either.

I don't even blame lack for tonight's loss. the team is just a fire drill in their own zone. it's getting harder and harder to watch.

Sigh.

Since last week, he shutout the Blues, held Minny and Phoenix to 1 goal, and despite allowing 3 to Ottawa, he wasn't all that bad(but he did get bailed by a few posts).

The team in front of him right now is an utter joke. I counted at least 6-7 odd-man rushes for Dallas in this game, including 2 on 0. For a team that's supposed to be defensive-minded, we sure are doing a horrible job of it.

Lack and Markstrom are not the problems and they won't be until they have a team that plays a half-ass defence and scores more than one goal every two games.

Exactly.

Hope Ekblad drops like Couts did in his draft year.

Gotta love scoreboard scouting. That way people can pretend to know what happened without having to waste time watching hockey. For those of us that actually watched last nights game this thread should read:
Canucks need 4 NHL defenceman and 9 Nhl forwards.
