i thought i pretty much said i had no beef with the preds from the getgo, except i thought philly got the better end of the deal

anyway wasnt looking to start ***** just seeing if anyone else thought the way i did. for the preds sake i would like to see the trade work out.

to the poster that said good luck to the pens thanks. we have a HUGE game tonite in jersey and they have been on a terror...but they seem to give up leads and come back in ot/so.

we are just looking to get in the playoffs. right now they are in 4th, but they are 7pts out of 2nd but only 5 pts out of 10th i think. they could do some damage, just need the ticket to the dance...after that who knows what can happen. just like edmonton last year or the steelers winning SB XL.

any again go preds great team! love timonen and kariya

word im out

No point in arguing Lars. Its just another guy regurgitating the same mindless BS. These boards are filled with these guys. Its part of the HF gospel

actually it is not as much as you might think, at least not from our perspective.

parent was in jrs not our ahl/mil. we have 3~4 guys in milwaukee that can play for us(klein and brookbank already have as call-ups). even if we get rid of our two oldest D-men we still have depth. parent was drafted as depth and BPA(either him or another d-man were destined to be trade bait). not to mention parent has a bulging disc problem that has limited his play in jrs(this is something that can go on for years). at best he would have been a call-up next year.

upshall never really jelled here in nashville, probably because of injuries and being stuck on the 3rd line. only 14 games this year for him and 3 pts. maybe he will blossom in philly but for whatever reason he didn't seem to work here in nashville. maybe he needs a better dealer to get going, but we didn't have such until foppa and again his play didn't deserve to be on the top 2 lines. at present radulov showed more promise as a winger(the reason why graig said he would not have done the deal had rads been involved).

the draft picks: with any luck we will go deep into the POs and that means a lower pick for us. this years class isn't supposed to be that deep, so if you are going to give up a #1 you should do it in a year where that wasn't going to mean as much.

plus the side benifit is that neither Det, Anh, SJ or Van gets foppa and all of the talent we traded away goes to the EC(so it won't be haunting us, probably the reason why the pens and sabres fans don't like the deal). we get a center for the 3rd line which we needed(great matchups for us) and we don't lose anything for this year or next years run).

Oh wow didn't know his career was in jeopardy. I always knew Johansson was a character guy, just making a funny. So what was his injury exactly?

he might be in the end of his career, but i really feel sorry for the guy. both gagne and knuble said that forsberg was the best center they ever played with and that he did things with the puck they had never seen before. Yes, injuries crippled his career, which is sad, because otherwise he would be up there with gretzky, lemieux and the bunch.

This is a DESPERATE move to ensure that we make noise in the playoffs, and in turn, increase our fan base. If we don't make the WC Finals or Cup Finals, it will be a bust.

It terms of asset managment, this is a terrible move. Why does Poile wait until the deadline and make any significant trades? In the offseason, he always says something like "I'm happy with the team and don't want to make big trades." Then the trade deadline comes, and he has to massively overpay for something. We could've had 4 years of Progner for this package, instead of 20 something games of Forsberg (if not injured).

This is just such a huge risk. Forsberg is one of the most injury prone players in the game, and there's a decent chance he could get injured before the playoffs. #2) I'm just not a fan of huge trade deadline additions. #3) It doesn't address a huge hole. Arnott and Legwand have a been great as our #1 and #2 center. It does give us a dominant PP player, and certainly improves our team, but what we really needed was a Peter Forsberg calilber defenisve player.

I'm happy to have him, but personally, I wouldn't have pulled the trigger on this trade. I'd have used the assets on something else, and would've timed them better.

Dulzhok, while I agree that it would have been wiser to put these players in a package for Pronger, it should be noted that Smid AND Lupul were held in much higher regard at the time (especially Lupul in comparison to Upshall).

I know for a fact that I heard over 3000 individual tickets were sold today.

It is his back that gives him trouble. As it is he now he cant even train cause of pain. He said he will try again after this season to get back. I doubt it but ofcourse wish him the best of luck.

According to the article in a Swedish magazine Forsberg stated that it was only Nashville he was interested in. He said that Kariya took a huge pay cut to come to Colorado and help them out, now it was Forsberg time to pay that back.

He also know Darcy Hordichuk who trained a summer with MODO and also played a couple of charity games for the MODO NHL pros foundation.

I don't know if the Sharks ever faced Forsberg in the playoffs, I can tell you from being a fan of a team that faced him two years in a row that it's no picnic and he can(still) single handedly take over a game.

(someone sent me this)
-----------------------------------------------------------

A pained look came across Steve Sullivan's face.

"Vat it is, Zully?" asked Radulov.

"I felt a great disturbance in Detroit, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."

"This is being another of those rules that are unwritten that I must be learning, I think.", said Radulov.

Master Trotz arrives.

"News I have. Things first, first. Upshall, your hair you are to pack. Your destiny lies elsewhere."

"But i was going to St Louis to pick up some Puck Bunnies!"

"Away, young one. Master Timmonen, a council meeting you must call."

"Yes, Master. Hey guys...get in here...err...Uppie, what are you doing?"

"I can't find my hair! I think it went to Shannon's without me!"

Master Timmonen sighs. "Fine. Whatever. Let's go, boys. Master Trotz has news...it must be important, his neck is visible."

The council arrives, taking their assigned seats. Master Trotz begins:

"Master Forsberg, joining us he is."

A collective blink emerges from the council. "Master FORSBERG" is whispered on the lips of nearly every member.

"Has anyone seen my hair?!?!?"

"AWAY, Padawan. We grow weary of your presence in our chambers!" shouts master Sullivan.

Master Trotz continues..."On the eve of our next battle at home, join us Master Forsberg will. Padawan Radulov, study under him you will. Respectful and absorbent will you be. Is this understood?"

"Vat iss padawan?" Radulov asks. A snicker makes its way around the council chambers. "Just smile and nod, Captain Clueless" says Master Sullivan.

Padawan Radulov smiles and nods.

"Pleasing this news is, " Master Trotz continues, "but with it great responsibility comes. Re-dedicate ourselves to our ultimate goal, we must. Many draft picks' lives were lost to bring us this opportunity. Squander it we must not."

"Guys, I'm REALLY sorry, but I can't leave without my hair."

Lightning emerges from Master Sullivan's fingertips. Upshall stands motionless, smoldering. "That's not fair!!" he screams. Master Trotz hands him an airline ticket. "On this flight to Philadelphia you will be."

"Is it a fast ship?" Upshall asks.

"Fast enough." replies Master Poile, entering the room unseen.

"Master Poile!" intones the council. "Bow, dangit" whispers Master Sullivan to Radulov. He bows.

"Master Poile", says Trotz. "Honored we are by your presence, and humbled we are, as always, by your way with the force. Of great value will your latest act be to our cause."

Master Poile bows, and takes an unobtrusive seat in the corner.

"Questions, then, have any of you?" asks Trotz.

"Yes, Master Trotz. With which players shall Master Forsberg skate?" asks Master Arnott.

"Eight hundred lines have I used. My own council will I keep on who is to skate with the Foppa."

The council nods.

"Other questions are there?"

"Yes, I am having one." says Radulov.

"Vat iss a Voppa?"

This was posted on the NP.com boards by a Admirals fan:

Mike Santos (NSH Director of Hockey Op) was the intermission interview guest of Admirals' announcer Aaron Sims.

Excerpts:

"Feb. 15 was our deadline day to make the deal because Detroit didn't have the cap room to acquire Forsberg until the 16th"

"The risk was preventing another team in the West trading for him, we'd much rather have him on our team"

"Anaheim didn't have the picks to trade because they gave up a lot for Pronger"

"San Jose didn't have the prospects to give up"

Interesting the dynamics of the behind the scenes manuevering....

This was a total godfatheresque move by Poile.

In addition, Poile said yesterday on 104.5 that they delayed a reply to Philly on the trade so it would be assured that Forsberg played against Detroit earlier in the week. Don't know if he was kidding or not, but that certainly worked out well.

Actually, since he had an NTC he had to ok any trade.
He told Flyers that Preds and Ducks would be ok, with Preds as preffered, but of course they all kept that fact under the table since it would hurt the negotiations.

There's no secret that this deal is a gamble.
And it's a gamble aimed at getting a Cup now, not building for the future.

Forsberg's feet has dogged him since he was a junior, and it has gotten worse for every year.
The surgery last year was a gamble too.
He had to do it and hope that it would solve his issues, but there was no guarantee that it would work.
His return to the game a couple of months early was another gamble, and a gamble that they lost.
Knowing what they know now he should have taken more time to build up muscle and find a skate that worked for his 'new and possibly improved' foot but he didn't and that resulted in what he himself described as "the worst and most painful season in my life" and "something that I never want to do again". And he was talking about playing without being able to skate, not about playing with the Flyers.
(One could note that while not being able to skate and playing on the team with least points in the league, he still came out with 1 PPG and the only member of the Flyers squad with a postive +/-.)

Will it work this time?
Nobody knows. Forsberg thinks (and hopes) that the foot and skate issues are history. But he doesn't know and he doesn't trust it. Which is why he refused to sign a contract for next year with Flyers, or anyone else.

He simply doesn't know if he's is playing hockey or golf come next season. And signing a contract to play hockey with anyone while not knowing if he'd be playing at all would be outright dishonourable and treacherous.

Flyers couldn't keep him based only on his hopes that he would be ok, they had to cash in and salvage what they could.

Preds on the other hand doesn't bother much about what he doing next season, they want him in their locker room now, even if he's only playing 5-6 minutes a game.
They want his experience, they want his name to sell more tickets, they want his prescence to get media in on the hype.

And what they want most of all is his pigheaded, bordering on psychotic, stubborness.

Forsberg hates, absolutely hates, to lose. No matter what.
Members of the national team has (jokingly) reported that Forsberg is banned from playing any form of competetive games, like video games or cards, while on the team, since they don't want anymore hotel rooms thrashed.

And playing on a team he wants the team to win, and goes mental if is doesn't even if he himself leaves the ice with 4-5 pts.

This type of interchange is normal for Forsberg:
Reporter: What do you think of the game?
Forsberg: It sucked hairy elephant balls! We lost!
Reporter: But you had 2 goals and assist on the other two?
Forsberg: Who ***** cares, we lost!

I think that Preds are going to get what they payed for.
Preds aren't Flyers, he's not supposed to carry this team on his back. He's being payed (a lot) to ride shotgun and to add to the team.

AC Milan did the same thing. They bought Savisevic so that they wouldn´t have to face him, not cause they needed him.
