Because he's demanded one and they don't want an unhappy pain-in-the-ass being a distraction the rest of the year.

No official confirmations (yet) but hearing NYR are prepared to trade Callahan, plus 1st rd pick and 2nd rd pick for Marty St. Louis. Close.
It begins.

For Callahan, a 1st AND a 2nd per Bob MacKenzie.... not exactly cheap for a player at his age.

The fascination with Rundblad is quite confusing to me.

still pretty shocking if it goes down.
cant see Callahan staying in TB unless his demands come down.

How the **** did Yzerman get that much for a player that demanded a trade to only one team?

where have you been?

St. Louis has been sour since he wasn't orginally named to team Canada and the reason why he was Stamkos' replacement was bc Yzerman was trying to save face with him

Because he's a damn good player...Callahan is pretty much irrelevant in this trade. He walks after this year because his demands are not getting fulfilled.

McKenzie said that the Lightning would likely not be re-signing Callahan, so its really a short rental and two futures for a Hall of Famer who is still playing well.

I obviously have no inside information about what's going on behind the scenes between MSL and Tampa Bay, but the fact that Marty demanded a trade mid season instead of the off season is puzzling to me. I guess he was really pissed.

I suppose. That package is closer to the actual value for St. Louis though, and certainly more than I was expecting for a guy who was only willing to move to one team.
