Scotty Upshall

I've learned a lot about Parent, but what can you guys tell us about Upshall? Do you think he's ready to be an NHL regular and if so, in what role? From what i've gathered it seems like he's a solid 3rd liner at this point and that's probably about what he's going to be even as he develops further. Would you call him a very good 3rd liner or is that over-stating it? What were the expectations when he was drafted so high, is it fair to say he hasn't lived up to his billing?

Thanks for the answers in advance and good luck to Nashville and Peter. May you win a cup and may we get Peter back for next season. Enjoy him, he's a pleasure to watch every night and wants to win more then anyone.

All flash and no finish.

He can skate, and hit but he can't seem to score and gets hurt alot.

he plays hard though and he's really fast.

Also plays a very gritty game, but is injury prone.

I have always said that he plays a game that his body isn't cut out for.....

I hope he succeeds with the Flyers, he is a hard worker and a team guy.

his scoring that was always decent in juniors never developed, and he's fallen into the doghouse over questions of his work ethic and attitude. tore up the minors, then got called up and whizzed around the ice(very quickly) and did very little. I wish him the best, and there's still hope for him, but it was never going to happen here. Just too many injuries, every time he starts looking like he's putting it together.

hmm.. as did I, granted he was a couple grades ahead of me. Watched him play during the Oil Barons RBC run in the AJHL in 2000, and the praise of his talent is justifiable, al beit perhaps slightly exagerated at times. He also lead the Canadian Junior team to 2 gold medals ('01, '02?), wearing the C in the second year. Very talented, gritty player, and plays much bigger than he is. Perhaps akin to a lesser Theo Fleury, with the added bonus of purported leadership abilities. Being a Fort McMurray guy, the Fleury-esque drug addiction may be something to look forward to (lol to ppl unfamiliar with Ft. Mac, small town, big money, highest drug use per capita in the province).

The complaints regarding his work ethic do not surprise me in the least, judging from the guy's personality... far too cocky for his own good; Scotty's self admiration is matched only by the admiration he recieves from his hometown's residents, or at least those residents who are unfamiliar with him on a personal lever. (worth noting? - the town's reverence of Upshall is evident in the dropped **** (edit: err... 4 letter word for sexual assault?) charges following a drunken high school grad night involving Upshall, a friend of his, a younger girl, and a privacy-providing forrest; accusations which surpised no one who was familiar with Upshall). Athletes (or people in general) who think themselves to be perfect rarely put in the effort necessary to improve.

That said, he has also had a bad run of luck with injuries. Whether or not this is a developing career trend is yet to be seen, and so far none of the injuries have been too serious. As a result, however, he has yet to have the opportunity to show what he can really do with a bit of momentum behind him. Gods willing, he may just make some waves in the pros yet.

Congrats to Upshall, playing a lot of PP minutes & PK minutes, too!

Nice to see him get a goal in his first game wearing #9...

Good luck Scottie!

Who are his linemates? He has near identical icetime to Mike Richards, so I'm guessing they're playing together?

He was playing with Carter and Calder for most of the game, which is our second line. He looked good out there, and got some PP and PK time as well. His goal was a nice one, and it turned out to be the game winner.

If he can stay healthy and gain some confidence, I think he can be a very good player. Poor kid was just never going to get a legitimate chance playing for the Preds.

Thanks for Upshall! He scored us one today in a win we badly needed post-Forsberg.

Good luck tonight! I will be watching

"This was the first game that the Flyers have won all year without Peter Forsberg in the lineup. Ironically, Scottie Upshall's goal was the game winner."

Great to see Upshall do well in his debut. That kid just needs some playing time.

Yeah, I don't think anyone ever said he wasn't good...or have the potential to be a third line, 'maybe' a second line guy...But - he's a head case. In my book, once a head case, always a head case. He is probably happy now that he'll be the center of attention in Philly. He is their 'go to' guy for now or whatever...but, wait until other teams match up against him and his lines...he'll start the whining, complaining, etc.
Good luck to the kid, however...

I don't like them. You have to put too much sugar in them. I tried using fruit or honey, but that does not help either. Upshall will be in the AHL or Europe by mid - next season. Mark it now. But, like I said, I don't wish anyone ill will. I just know player psyche. He's a head case. Nuff' said. Out.
