I've been under the assumption since about January that we would be out of the race (admittedly thought by more than 6 points, but give it time), be shopping Legwand, field offers, and trade him to Detroit. Who Leggy would naturally waive his NTC for, and get some sort of respectable return in exchange. Can we just get it done already?
SIRIUSXM reporting that Detroit trying hard for Legwand.
Let's hope. The real question is if Legwand>Gaustaud in the eyes of the rest of the NHL.
As for being a "buyers market"... sounds like a premature excuse as to why Legwand didn't get much. St Louis got a good return. Gaborik and Hemsky have done pretty much nothing this year (and the previous yr) and shouldn't get much of a return. Maybe going to a new team will ignite them-- no other reason for people to trade for them. Luongo is a contract albatross at this stage. St Louis / Callahan only players of decent value that have been traded.
In all honesty I always liked Leggy and thought a ton of hatred was unwarranted. Which makes it that much stranger that I'm glad he's gone. Saw this coming for months. Wasn't hard to figure out, especially given him having to approve of his destination.
