Seems like it gets higher actually, and we can get another pick.

Condition sounds like it might be better pick, not worse. Also sounds like there may be more as well...

Homer says draft pick could be higher in Mez trade. Conditions on pick. Flyers may also get an added pick.

I think Mez will look REALLY good for the Bruins though. Good pick up for them.

Him and Charas whirlwind 're' romance in Sochi was great for the Flyers!

Based on the tweet (just my interpretation), I think Homer was saying that the 3rd is conditional AND there is another (or more) picks involved.

So in other words...

To PHI
Conditional 3rd (could be higher if X, Y, or Z happens)
Other pick guaranteed (Not sure what that pick is)

To Bos
Mez

That's just my reading of what was tweeted. Pure speculation.

finaly mr. brain fart is gone..

feels good when we manage to ditch players without having to buy them out ala Briere..

Mez. now relegated to the pile of crap along with Carle and players of his ilk.

dont let the door hit you on the way out...

Homer can't reveal the conditions on the draft pick(s) Flyers got for Mez until he has conference call with NHL tonight.
So, it is conditional.

So, fair guess?

3rd becomes a 2nd if BOS makes conference final. Flyers get some extra pick (5th?) if BOS re-signs Mez

^ Could be dependent on Boston's run or it could be determined by games played by Meszaros. That is why I mentioned earlier it could be a conditional return rather than a specific pick.

For the Flyers, absolutely. For the Bruins, I'd say it's about even, although that depends on the conditions. The cap hit is higher, the offense is better, defense worse I guess. From a Corsi perspective, it's not all that close that Mesz is better, but he played much more sheltered minutes and against weaker competition so maybe that's a wash.

I guess it depends on what you needed. A more offensive d-man, or a more defensive d-man? The Bruins, well, I actually figured they needed a more defensive guy, but maybe they think pairing Mesz with Chara will be a good balance. From that perspective, I'd say it's not a terrible deal, but I'm also not a big Mesz fan so I'm a bit biased.

According to Carchidi Homer can't reveal the conditions on the pick(s) until he talks to the league office.

They're not going to be happy if they pair Mez with Chara. It won't take long for opposing teams' best players to realize they should focus on Mez, like other teams did to Carle when he was with Pronger.

And that has now been mentioned:

Quote:
Pick from BOS becomes a 2 if Bruins reach Conf. finals and Meszaros plays 2/3 of playoffs or he is re-signed prior to draft.

PHILADELPHIA – There were a lot of rumors, a lot of rumblings, names, packages, debates… you know, the typical trade deadline fare.

In the end there was Andrew MacDonald coming to Philadelphia and Andrej Meszaros leaving for Boston.

That was it for the Flyers.

From their perspective, it was an upgrade of the third pairing on defense that also brought financial savings and at an affordable price.

It also was an opportunity to improve the team without parting with any of the prospects that have re-filled the organizational cupboard in recent years and set up the Flyers to be in a good spot with cap space and assets heading into the offseason.

With a younger team that is just beginning to hit its stride, that’s a good place to be.

First, let’s rehash the trades:

MacDonald, 27, was acquired Tuesday from the New York Islanders in exchange for a third round pick in the 2014 draft, a second round pick in the 2015 draft and Phantoms forward Matt Mangene.

Meszaros was traded to Boston Wednesday for a conditional 2014 third round pick. The third round pick becomes a second rounder if Boston reaches the Conference Finals and Meszaros plays in at least 2/3 of all of the Bruins 2014 Playoff games or if Boston re-signs Meszaros to a contract before the start of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

If neither condition is met, it remains a third rounder but if Boston signs Meszaros after the start of the 2014 NHL entry draft for the 2014-15 season, the Flyers pick up an additional fourth round pick from Boston in 2015.

So…

MacDonald is a pending unrestricted free agent, but he said this morning he would definitely consider signing with the Flyers before free agency hit in July and general manager Paul Holmgren added that he’d like to sign MacDonald beyond this season.
