Yeah seriously. He's a while away from forcing one of Cooter, Schenn, & Vinny out of center.

He needs at least 1 full ahl season, minimum.

I'd bet anything Laughton doesn't spend the majority of 1 season in the AHL. That's not how the Flyers roll with 1st round pick forwards, especially ones that can contribute defensively.

Vinny scores a goal 4 on 4 yesterday. Now all the sudden some people want to keep him? OMG.

Points in every game since the break I believe.

Yep, the way he's progressed, I'd be surprised if he spends anymore time in the AHL than the end of this season. He's got the size and tools to play in the NHL, doesn't hurt to start as the 4th line center and focus on defense, then gradually work your way up the ladder.

Vinny can score, no one I think denies that, it's everything else that he struggles doing - watching him skate is painful - very similar to Jagr a couple years ago - when he gets to the play he's dangerous, but otherwise, meh.

he's also out of position on D very often-which isn't too surprising when you take a vet out of his natural spot and jam him in elsewhere

We do not need to keep him, trade him for a young defenseman.
We need D more than 2-3 extra centers who can not play wing.

Just because he's scoring points doesn't mean he's not living upto his contract, he has looked subpar still, even with the points...

True. It's a good thing we're not paying him to look good, though.

He doesn't look good and he won't for like 4 more years.
Just another wasted acquisition, would rather have the 4.5M cap space.
Homer should have used the money better, Vinny is a shell of himself.
Homer needs to stop playing fantasy hockey GM.
He does not need to spend to the cap, its not like use it or lose it applies.

What a dumb argument, reminds me of people bashing on Carter for looking like he wasn't putting any effort in. Points is what matters, not looking pretty doing it. Vinny plays well for his role, people were expecting too much. I think he's looking and creating fine for being paired with 2 guys almost 10 years younger than him. In the games where we've seen him at 100% and intense he's dominated (mostly against TB). I can't wait to see him in the playoffs, I expect a Briere-like turnaround.

I believe the larger point is that scoring a goal in a game
shouldn't overshadow 59 minutes of shoddy & mediocre hockey
before that...

Was leading the team as a minus...until they got MacDonald. Guy is a mere shell of his former self. He's turning into Knuble at the tail end of his career.

I'm sure there are posts on this site that you can find to re-enforce your confirmation-bias against Holmgren, Lecavalier, and the value of cap-space & potential over actual roster players.

One way the Flyers could get out of Vinny's contract: trade him back to the Lightning for Ryan Malone. Malone sucks, but he is a left winger with only one year at $4.5m left on his contract.

People have been going overboard a bit on players recently.

In all honesty, it makes the fanbase look not-so-great.

I really hope for the sake of the future Vinny is playing injured because he looks terrible is every aspect of the game, especially his skating.

I don't think I can take 4 more years of this subpar production.

Hmm was reading this thread and saw a lot of disappointment with Lecavalier. Has he really regressed this much? I know that Montreal is having a similar relationship with Briere at the moment. Not happy with him. I remember when Lecavalier was a force to be reckoned with. I know before Jagr got signed a lot of fans in Jersey were not impressed. Maybe you have to give him some time. He could turn himself around for next season or if you qualify for the play offs.

It's Scapegoatelphia. There has to be a whipping boy, this week it's Vinny and Grossmann.

He was a force to be reckoned with to start the season. It seemed Vinny and Mason were the only guys who showed up to the first 6-8 games of the season. I think his back is in bad shape, because he hasn't been the same since he sat out injured with that.

If anyone thinks Vinny or Grossmann are just scapegoats of the week, they're stupid. They're been playing horrible for literally over 3 months, are we just supposed to ignore that and not discuss it on a hockey forum? Put on your big boy pants and accept that sometimes people are going to have negative views on things, and that's ok. We don't have to be all sunshine and rainbows and ignore the fact that two people are being paid millions of dollars to make it harder for the team we support and invest a lot of time into to win games. And it's not just them, Hartnell and Downie are doing the same thing. People talking about how bad they are isn't making them a scapegoat, it's recognizing the problems on the team.

I can't fathom what makes people get so defensive on behalf of players. You see it with all the players I mentioned and you saw it with Bryz too, they don't need to be protected by people on the internet. We can say negative things about them, they'll live. It's not even like we're being unfair or incorrect about it.

Vinny has been so bad. I had not turned on him yet, but last night's game was the final straw. Zero chemistry with anyone on the team.

Did Vinny ever play with Downie while in Tampa?
