I'm ok with it.
$2.5 isn't going to break the bank.

Philly took a huge hometown discount, to get the 2nd year.

They tacked on a NTC? All I saw was the 2 year deal reported by TSN

I don't think the deal is that bad either. Don't know why everyone's up in arms over it. Typical HF I guess

I don't like the NTC, but then I'm almost never a fan of those. Limited NTCs are ok I guess, but I just don't like players, especially late in their careers when they aren't the players they used to be, being able to handcuff the GM.

The numbers are fine though.

Umm it's 2 years. Not very long. 2.5M? Not bad at all especially for a team near the cap floor. NTC? He's been here his whole career and only signed a 2 year contract on a team that's on the upswing (hopefully).

How is this anything but a perfect deal for both sides?

phillips in his role of a #5/6 defenceman with pk is fine

phillips being overplayed by our coach is beyond stupid

its like if you see a kid playing with a knife, he is going to hurt himself, if you dont take away the knife its on you. thats how the majority of the fanbase feels right now. its less against phillips its more against the coaching

Are people really complaining bout such a minimal deal for a guy who is rarely hurt? I would have preferred a 1 year deal bot why would a ufa do that? Durability and leadership makes him worth it.

after the Alfie fiasco it's nice to see a guy make it a priority to play his entire career here. He wasn't bringing a first or Spooner back in any reality, why bother moving him just to move him.

Its because he is bad, plus the media hyped the concept of getting assets in return for him. Plus the sens have 5 left handed D men signed for next season.

I would rather him be hurt(out of the lineup). Im not wishing on him to get injured but I dont want him in the lineup!

Whatever we would of brought in would of been a success to me just to see him off this team. If he was used correctly sure he might be an okay #6 d-man but we have a horrible coach that uses him on our #1 PP and is used way too much.

Hes probably our best defense-man on the PK, I'll give him that, but he is just holding our younger players back.

At this point in his career, Phillips (36 on Sunday) is worth more to the Senators in terms of leadership and character than any team would pay for him. Even if he drops to a 7th D-man during his contract, I see this as a good deal, as the next-oldest D-man on the roster is Marc Methot at 28. I also see this as Philips' last contract before he retires. All that said, I see this as a good deal for a bottom-pairing D-man.

He always looks more like he should be the equipment manager than playing on the ice

Not sure this is the best signing by Murray.
