I guess this now makes Condra the weakest link & before people point to Greening keep in mind the coach likes him & plays him a lot more than Condra.

Yet another emotional day for myself and @ShaynenChadwick and our family and friends. It was a great honor to play with the Ottawa senators

What a waste. Even without hindsight, and unlike some have said, lots of us didn't like that deal. And many haven't liked how he has been developed. Bad trade. Bad asset management. Thumbs down on getting him, how we handled him here, and how we let him go for nothing.

On the flip side..

Have you ever seen something on facebook or on the side of the road with a big FREE sign labelled on it? And upon viewing that FREE item thought to yourself.. Damn that wouldn't look too bad in my living room for FREE.

That's exactly what Conacher was. No one wanted to pay for him because he wasn't worth what Ottawa wanted. However at the price of FREE he was too good to pass up.
Great analogy. Conacher will be, in the short term, a good value pickup for the Sabres. He'll buzz around, probably chip in a few goals, and fans will be very excited about him. Next year, in a full season, he'll dry up offensively and get knocked around a lot, as he did here. He'll be a good "bridge" player for the Sabres as they rebuild, but when they are ready to contend again, he will not be part of their core. It was a worthwhile gamble for the Senators to see if Conacher could be the next Marty St. Louis or Theo Fleury, but sadly he wasn't.

I did see Conacher's tweet about he and his fiancee from earlier in the day. Conacher seemed like a very nice guy who worked hard and was a great teammate. That's the lousy side of pro sports we don't see - we are talking about real people with friends, roots they've put down in the community, etc. Sure, I know they get paid well, but they are still human, and days like today are tough...

Judging by Murrays comments on the team 1200, it seems that they'd seen enough that it wasn't working out and that Hoffman is an NHL player and that it's his roster spot now to show he can stick. Also didn't want an overly small team so to get Hoffman in full time, would like to make the room from another small player.

If he could have, he likely would have. Dont buy that he left anything on the table with Cony.

He said we were in on other names, but Hemsky fell right about what he was willing to pay.

Also said that him and Tim my revisit Chris Stewart in the summer.

Everyone here thought Conacher + 4th for Bishop was a steal.

Not sure about that. When Bishop was with the Blues he was considered by many as the goalie who wasn't a regular starter who had the best chance to become one. After Bishop filled in admirably when Anderson was injured, there was some controversy as to who was the better tender - Lehner or Bishop. Many thought that Bishop would fetch at least a 2nd and 4th when he was finally moved to Tampa.

I had a feeling that Tampa would end up liking the player they picked up much more than the player they gave away.

You're the GM. You need roster space and you have too many LW. Who do you waive?

- Conacher
- Greening
- Hoffman
- Kassian.
