Right now, the habs are their own worst enemy. Until they start feeling good about themself and lose their fragile psyche, I cant start comparing them to any other team.... and who knows if they will actually snap out of it in time... because time is also running out in exponential form.

i think that of those teams, looking at actual performance (not "on paper" teams), our biggest threats are carolina and toronto.

i think atlanta is a lock to make the playoffs, though they're still in the race, but they're at 6th. i can't see that offensive talent and lehtonen in goal falling into a slump big enough to fall dramatically.

carolina's looking healthy, they are the defending champs and should probably soon go on a streak, like they did last season, late in the season.

toronto is mediocre on paper, but they're one of the hardest working teams in the league. raycroft has been very good as of late, and the defensive unit is coming around since they moved kaberle and kubina together. they'll work for every goal and point they get.

the islanders aren't a very scary team, but they could be one of those "s*** disturber" teams. i think they'll eventually fade away.

the rangers on paper are one of the better teams of this group, but with lundqvist struggling and lack of depth up front, as well as a possible shanahan injury, i can't see them jumping up the standings enough to knock us out of any of the 3 available playoff spots.

Carolina has so much room to improve... that scares me off picking them as a team we might be able to catch, even if they aren't really playing well.

Atlanta is a team that is dropping. If they can keep that slide going, if Lehtonen can keep looking as rough as he has lately, I could see them becoming something of surprise targets for the teams looking to make it.

Toronto... with Wellwood, Tucker, and Peca out, they climbed. They're the real wildcards in the race, IMO... overachieving, but in tough circumstances. They've shown the most character. I think they'll be the bulldogs in the battle, they won't let go.

The Islanders are the stealth team in it all for most of us. They're being run very well, and they might just be a team that is going to solidify some of it's lack of depth with deadline acquisitions. Then it becomes a question of whether those new faces mesh and help, or whether they distract.

I kinda think the Rangers are finished. Injuries are coming, they're already that extra little bit behind, and I don't know where the heart to launch a major winning streak comes from there.

Anyway, it's not Mission Impossible yet, if at least two of the teams ahead of us are at all vulnerable.

That's implying we have some success at some level. Which is completely untrue.

Well IMO opinion none of those teams are going to win the cup, Atlanta and Carolina probably shouldn't be included in that group, despite the fact that Atlanta is struggling.

Carolina can't be counted out as a contender for obvious reasons(I still think Carolina needs to add a player or two) if Atlanta adds a defenceman or 2. i woundn't count them out either.
The rest of them would need a miracle to win the cup and
I can't see one or two players putting them over the top, certainly not rental players who are currently available.
