The Sabres were shorthanded for 19 minutes, and only mustered 25 shots on goal. Nice for Luongo, but probably the easiest shutout a goalie could get.

Can someone explain to be why Chris Stewart is a big deal? I've never seen him play much & his stats are not all that impressive

We had a chance to get him.

There is a belief that he has a great deal of skill, but was squelched in Hitchcock's system. There is probably some truth to that. There is also a belief that we needed a power forward, and he was as close as we could reasonably get to landing one of those witint our budget. Not quite as sure about the power forward part, but whatever. The other part was he has a year left on a reasonable contract, so some people wanted him because he is not a rental.

I'm really happy for Luongo. I still don't understand how it got so bad for him in Vancouver after helping them get to game 7 of the finals 3 years ago. He lets in a few soft goals and suddenly management and media say he's no longer a #1 goalie and try desperately to trade him. It escalated so quickly and made him look like some joke of a goalie

Ahh interesting. Although when he was traded to St. Louis he got 23 points in 26 games. Though a significant dropoff the next year with 30 points in 79 games. Then a respectable 36 points in 48 games during the lockout. Now this year he's back at less than 0.5PPG. Seems like a real on/off player that you can count on having a good season every 2 years.

He is not a true power forward, and our system is not that much more wide open than Hitchcock's. What I think is that people see the size and automatically forgive the pedestrian numbers.

The knock on him is definitely consistency. Although, in fairness to him, watching a Hitchcock-coached team play is like watching paint dry. He has a great deal of offensive flare and imagination that would not be welcome.

The Islanders have already scored three goals on Ortio in Calgary, and that's without Tavares.

We managed one.

'nuff said.

Huh? San Jose is a far better possession team than Pittsburgh.

Correct. SJ is 4th in the league in Corsi % at 53.8%, while Pitts is 20th at 48.9%.

Big night on the scoreboard today. For the ones still clinging to hope we need to win and have the flyers, bruins, canes, coyotes, preds and sharks win to make it a perfect night.

Let me see...

-the fans there are psychotic

-the team is the most mentally fragile group I've ever seen

-Luongo is a bit of an attention *****, and couldn't accept being a backup, so he asked for a trade and kept asking for going on 2 years...and only wanted to go to Florida

-their GM is a complete idiot and can't make a decision until you shove his face into the fire

-that team got old in a hurry, and too many guys have TNCs

It's going to be a nasty, nasty future in Vancouver. And, quite frankly, I don't think the future will be much better for Luongo. He is showing his age this year. He's not the same goalie he was a few years ago.

Stewart is a run and gun player... He would thrive here getting passes from EK on the fly.

Stewart ice time this season too is down... 13 a game on St.Louis

-the team is the most mentally fragile group I've ever seen You cant determine mental states based on watching hockey.

-Luongo is a bit of an attention *****, and couldn't accept being a backup, so he asked for a trade and kept asking for going on 2 years...and only wanted to go to Florida This is false. he told Mike Gillis he would go anywhere. Mike Gillis asked for too much at first, eventually settling for what he got.

-their GM is a complete idiot and can't make a decision until you shove his face into the fire Yup, Gillis is the worst.

-that team got old in a hurry, and too many guys have TNCs Their window closed just like ours did. Happens to a lot of teams.

It's going to be a nasty, nasty future in Vancouver. And, quite frankly, I don't think the future will be much better for Luongo. He is showing his age this year. He's not the same goalie he was a few years ago. He always has a slow start and shine for the second half. has been this way his whole career.
My thoughts in bold.

I will also add this. Now that Florida has Luongo, a new ownership that will spend money and loaded with prospects, they are going to be a tough tough team to beat. I expect to see them contending before we are.

Need wins from Philly, Boston, Carolina, and Phoenix.

Toronto and New Jersey with leads early on though. -_-

Erat and the Coyotes playing in Washington. Would be hilarious if Erat scores.
