Didn't Cassidy say after the Iowa game (3 games ago) he was playing his best hockey of the year? Also, what impact would acquiring a LW have on the playing time of a RW?

Yeah, Armia's play has been trending upward for sure. I've seen the majority of Amerk's game recently, so i'm not talking out my ass.

Armia is definitely trending upwards. Gotten better as the season's gone along. He doesn't deserve to be a scratch.

I agree about Armia but as to the second part, ultimately wingers are wingers. You play your best wingers, not your best LW's and RW's.

3/7 - Amerks breeze past Crunch, 4-1:
Quote:
Crunch netminder Kristers Gudlevskis allowed four goals on 26 shots, while his Rochester counterpart Nathan Lieuwen stopped 28 of 29 shots faced. Syracuse failed to convert on five power-play chances and allowed one power-play goal on five Rochester man-advantage opportunities.

Rochester jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the opening frame. Johan Larsson opened the scoring with a wrist shot from the left circle with 11:29 to play in the first period.

Rochester added a power-play goal when Jamie Tardif deflected a Phil Varone shot at the 14:41 mark. Left wing Tim Schaller rounded out the first-period scoring with his fourth goal of the season with 2:09 to play.

The Amerks extended their lead to 4-0, adding one goal in the middle frame. Joel Armia scored his sixth goal of the season 14:05 into the period, assisted by Colton Gillies and Chad Ruhwedel.

So is Lieuwen is the #1 now. Did he steal that job from Hackett?

Yeah hes #1 - although expect Hackett to get a game here and there - probably will be in net on Sunday vs Oklahoma City. Lieuwen won't have to play three games in three days then. Lieuwen also gets an extra day off so he will be well rested to play three games in four days starting Wednesday, March 12.

Good thing Des was recalled so Armia could play tonight.

Three starts tonight
1. RCH - 33 Joel Armia
2. RCH - 5 Chad Ruhwedel
3. RCH - 31 Nathan Lieuwen

Armia and Leiuwen both had very good games, and Larsson was noticeable every time he was on the ice.

Risto had an ok game...a few good looks from the point. The one thing that impressed me the most about him tonight was that he was consistently getting his shots on goal through traffic. That will be a welcome addition one day in Buffalo. He needs to speed up his decision making a little bit though. There were a couple of times plays got broken up because he either didn't commit to a move or tried to change his mind at the last second and fumbled the puck away. He's still really young though obviously and still adjusting to the increased speed of the game, so there's still a lot of hope he can work those kinks out of his game

Hackett has been pretty awful all year (only good stretch was in the Spengler Cup) while Lieuwen has been able to pick up wins in limited starts. Lieuwen is sitting 8th in SV% while Hackett is 34th.

Amerks recall JGL from Gwinnett of the ECHL:

The #Amerks have recalled D Jerome Gauthier-Leduc from Gwinnett of the ECHL. 1-3-4 in 8 games.
https://twitter.com/kevinoDandC/stat...62345709252608

Definitely seems to imply that the Sabres are going to call up a defenseman with Sulzer getting hurt last night.

Is there any new information since last night? If there isn't then concluding that he's not going to report (which is how this reads) is a bit of a leap

I'm just speculating. Just seems odd that no one knows where he is.
