Puck to the top of knee

So, at my game this morning I decided not to wear my knee savers, which as I know now, was a terrible idea.

I now have a giant puck sized bruise right off the top of my knee and a whole lot of pain when putting pressure on my leg or if I bend it. My biggest concern is if I damaged my knee cap or any ligaments or cartilage.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? No I haven't seen my doctor yet. I most likely will tomorrow. Been icing it lots all day.

Another concern is that I have to the outside of my knee and it is a little red. I'm not sure if that is from the bruise just extending or if its something else

Its my right knee. Puck hit more to the left as you can see in the pic. Obvious pain to the top of the knee as well the bruised areas. The other pain is to the outside of my knee

Wait until the swelling goes down. If it's really painful, see your Doctor. And wear pads next time, geez

Yes many times. It hurts but worst of all it makes your whole knee messed up and as you said unable to bend etc with out pain.

Its one of those injuries that hurts more than it damages. Personnally I wouldnt worry too much. Maybe after a day or two start to move it and stretch so it doesnt tighten up which can prolong the pain.

Go to the doctor by all means but I have an inkling he will tell you its just a bruise and will heal on its own.

I'm thinking it'll just be a deep bruise. Been icing it lots and I think I'll wait another day or 2 and then decide if I'll see the doc

I do that to my left knee all the time, in fact, I took two pucks there yesterday... Of course this is against 13 year olds who don't have the best of shots.... Although it does hurt... Just keep icing it and taking Advil or something, it should be fine in a few days...

Rest. I hurt my ribs in soccer one time. Bad bruise in the worst spot. laughing, stretching and any flexing would kill. In fact, if i didnt get my body warmed up it would hurt and be sore naturally. Butttttt thats the key. I shouldnt have done anything.

I still worked out. A lot. And it took 2 months to heal.

I even went on my annual vaca to Europe where I was better off in resting and being in salt water. Cold water helped.

Id say take this time to really do therapy to the area

You may not listen because I probably wouldnt either but heres my advice...

1) Wake up in the morning and do simple stretching and movement exercises around the whole body and focus on the area. dont over due it. 10-20 minutes
2) Dont just rest on it. Walk on it if capable with no serious pain. Like a half mile or full mile walk
3) Elevate it at least 2x a day for 30 minutes.
4) Eat foods all day that help in bone recovery and muscle healing
5) Sauna it up at 3-5x a week for 15-20 minutes
6) Jacuzzi it up about 2-5x a week for 15-20 minutes

When the BONE heals fully. Then you can start off slow. Maybe start with swimming. Then light weights.

Sleep well. 8 hours rec.
