Is there really a huge beef between Luongo and Thomas?

This seemed like Thomas didn't want to move unless Florida solved their goaltending issues and he could go to a playoff contender.

Florida moved Thomas more likely at his request/respect. His trade value was pretty low given his inability to be moved, his expiring contract, and his age.

Basically, Florida fills there need for a goalie for the remainder of the season and doesn't hinder a potentially playoff bound San Antonio Rampage. And a guilt free buyout/waive or backup goalie in Ellis for next season.

No. They are pros I'm sure they could co-exist. It's more a message to Lou that he is THE guy. He came from the flying 3 ring circus if goalie controversies so why make an undue story out if him and Thomas. Tallon lets him know he is the clear cut #1 and insures he has a focused Loungo in net.

Ah, that makes sense. I hope Luongo does well in Florida, I always thought he was a bit underappreciated by some of the Canucks fans and management.

I don't buy that at all. I'm very skeptical about everything that is reported about Thomas given how many times I've seen his words twisted. "Going postal"? Yeah, right. Obviously he wasn't happy because he might've been expecting to re-sign in Florida, but the way he talked post-game, really didn't seem like someone throwing a tantrum or anything. Some people just feel entitled to take shots at Thomas because of disagreements on non-hockey issues.

Lehtonen-Thomas tandem is just about too amazing for me to handle, though. I'll have to become a part time Stars fan.

Why are teams still signing Ellis? There are probably dozens of goalies outside the NHL who can play at a similar level or better than him. He's basically getting contracts because, well, he's got contracts before.

Ellis is signed through 2015, he's not a UFA after this season.

Guess Florida wanted to avoid any conflict between Luongo and Thomas and establish that Lu will be the number one guy going forward. Dallas needed a better backup than Ellis so Florida did them a favour.

Expected Thomas to be moved, didn't think it'd be Dallas that got him though.

He's a definite upgrade over Ellis, whom I haven't heard from yet. Wonder how he's taking it.

I heard he was a Modano fan and was looking forward to the jersey retirement on Saturday, so....that kind of sucks, lol.

Still, glad to see Timmy available whenever Kari needs a rest!

Is Tim Thomas a gorilla? Why do his arms look like they touch the floor in that picture...

Ellis said that he saw the Kypreos tweet about Thomas getting possibly moved and the #stars, and it crossed his mind that he could involved in a trade for Thomas.

It seems that Horachek really liked Ellis (from his time in Nashville) and was probably the driving force behind the trade, Ellis said good things about him too.

This is a good move for Dallas. Going to be a dogfight for that 8th spot with Phoenix, Winnipeg (didn't realize they were that close) and Vancouver right on their heels.
And that is why Thomas was traded. Imagine Lu coming in and allowing3-4 goals in his first game then TT getting a shutout. It would be the Vancouver thing all over again.

This is a win for everyone.
Florida avoids any distraction.
TT goes to a team fighting for the playoffs
Dallas gets a more than capable backup
Lu gets the crease without looking over his shoulder.

Looks like a fine trade for Dallas. Trade a backup for a starter. And now Thomas will have to save Dallas' playoff hopes with Lehtonen out for a bit.
