If I was MacT I might ask him to hold the fort down there and get us into a playoff spot, we will likely need to call-up atleast one of Lander, Pitlick, or Horak for depth purposes; then I'd promise Arcobello a one-way one year contract coming into next year, he's shown enough where he probably deserves it.

W's on the big squad should be the primary focus of any NHL general manager, but it might be one of those instances of where you have to consider what's best for the development of the players in the organization as a whole and let that take precedent.
Im not sure whats best either. On one hand you could bring Arco up and try him as the 2C. He is probably better at this point, and this would let him develop chemistry + show case him for a trade (Conarcher just got waived so return wouldn't be big)

But Id also like to see the Barons make the playoffs, and make a run in the playoffs. Give the prospects some taste of post season before they are brought into the black hole that is the Oilers

I wonder how good the team would be with Omark+Arcobello+Rajala. All small skilled guys would put up big AHL points.

Still wondering why Rajala left, very weird case

A line of those three would wreck down there.

There's only one NHL player in there and he's not playing for us.

In 3 there could be 2 and the only current one will be out.

Also we have a ton of #6 dman coming up and none of them will cost half of what we were paying Smid. Good trade at the time keeps looking better as time goes by.

If you're lamenting losing Smid, well... he's been hot garbage this year. On fire. Hot garbage on fire.

That's what happens when you play for the Flames.

Arco should probably be up here, but keeping him down there allows him to play for something. Same with Lander and Fedun. A playoff run in the AHL, growing with alike talented prospects, is going to mean more for all of these players developments than letting them play against NHLers who may or may not have something to play for while playing with NHLers who clearly don't give a flying ****.

Pretty incredible how @Barons_Coach has #Oilers affiliate playing right now. Nothing fazes them. 6-0-0-1 in last 7, 12-2-0-2 in last 16

Barons are on in really good form as of late. That record in the past 16 games is amazing.

Arco never deserved to get sent down in the first place. I hope Tampa signs him in the offseason and he becomes the next StLouis.

Barons are in full scale playoff push mode now. It is pretty amazing how consistently they've done this every year. The roster has been a lot less skilled this year (especially defense) and we didn't get a great midseason signing like Cheechoo or Clark but they've still won 12 of 16, with points in 14 of 16 (I think).

I'd really like to see Larsen and Lander back down for the rest of the season and playoffs, rotating Gernat/Musil through the #6 spot.

Also the Barons announced games for next season so it looks like the team is staying around. Attendance hasn't been great but I think that they're doing alright financially and the Oilers seem pretty happy with things.

I am NOT looking forward to losing Nelson, he's the heart of the team and he'll be very difficult to replace. He certainly deserves an NHL job though.

(So why did we hire an AHL coach from outside of our organization?)

I dunno the Barons sucked when Hall, RNH, and Eberle were down there. Maybe it's our players not the coach.

Eakins gets a team that's better on paper from last year, team regresses.

Nelson gets a significantly worse offensive team, downgrades on defense and is still in the playoff hunt.

Interesting.

And the team got better once they left the Barons too....

Probably cause they were giving the same kind of commitment in the AHL as they are giving in the NHL nowadays......much easier to get a kid to buy in when they are trying to make the NHL then one that is already making millions

I, for one, hate the carousel of coaching that Edmonton does, but I can no longer think of a tangible reason we shouldn't promote Nelson.

It was very strange, the kids played pretty well when they were here but the team had a tough time. When they left we signed Cheech, Randy Jones and Brett Clark and went back to rolling 4 fairly even lines; defense got a lot better then and started winning everything.

Point being, I wouldn't necessarily blame the kids for the mediocre record, they (and the rest of the team) allowed too many goals and they weren't able to score enough to offset it. They probably could have done better had they played fewer minutes and bought into the system fully.
