Empty Net Goals

Is it just me, or does it annoy anyone else that during an empty net situation +/- is still in effect? I mean personally i think it's ridiculous that a player is credit a - when their team is scored on when they have an empty net, and even the team that has the "disadvantage" shouldn't be credidt with a plus...i mean they have a freaking empty net to shoot at, yes they are down one man, but 6-5 is nothing like 5-4. I dont know, but i would like to see a rule change here, and just make it an obsolete sitaution. You score, great, you allow great, that sucks. But too often players either get their stats inflated or deflated in this situation. Like for example tonight...Carter an even? I mean come on, he's hustling his all game, plays over 22 minutes, is eventually given an even cause of the empty net goal by soem guy who shot it from center ice. I just think it's stupid, but i would love to hear someone say something if they disagree as well.

Just more evidence to support the fact that +/- is a ridiculous stat and proves next to nothing.

Hell, in the sim league I'm in they don't even use it to rate the defensive stat of a player. Perfect example is Brian Pothier.

+/- is a good stat in certain situations. Joni's horrid -25 is indicative of his play. Darcy Tucker's -13 is not.

yes, it just shows that Tucker, just like McCabe, is only effective on the power play

I'd have to disagree with that. Although he hasn't played great this year I don't think a -25 describes his defensive play this year. Place Joni on a playoff team right now and he's at least a +15. That's why +/- is worthless.

it can be a overrated stat if you have goaltenders who give up countless soft goals, and it can be overrated if you are a highscoring team like Pittsburgh that gives up allot.
